Webmail timing out before loading emails

Hi

Webmail seems totally unable to load my emails today ( I’ve tried basic webmail too ) the service status button just crashes too.

Is there a known problem?

It’s very annoying as I keep getting threatened with having my emails archived but can’t get in to see how big my mailbox is or to delete any messages!

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

Not that helps you, as I keep my mail program as clean as possible, and only use webmail to report spam, but I  had no issues getting to all four of my mailboxes.

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

@btn if you have lost of emails , then webmail can time out when displaying email in the default sort order. A temporary trick to avoid the timeout is to change the sort order to None, see the thread here https://community.plus.net/t5/Email/Standard-Webmail-Round-Cube-slow-performance-mitigation/m-p/1661...

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

How many emails do you have in your Inbox?

Once you get to over about 700 you can start running into issues. At over 1000 (!) of so, it can definitely start stalling. 😀

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

@pvmb Why would you have 700, never min 1000+ in your inbox (or even in the inbox and deleted folder combined)?

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

...Some people get several emails a day (e.g. from information sources) and, over time, it builds up. That plus laziness over sorting it all out. 😊

Just checked; working fine today. The thing that does annoy me about the Plusnet RoundCube email system is that if/when the process stalls you have no way of terminating it. You just have to wait for it to time out.

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

I understand that, @pvmb , but that comes down to the end-user using a bit of common sense.

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

Yes but that tells me my inbox is 155 MG in size which is nowhere  near the 1GB Plusnet claims it is. But I can’t check through Webmial because it won’t load my emails….

Re: Webmail timing out before loading emails

@btn did you try changing the sort order as I suggested above ?

...Yes, I can confirm the Sort Order options can be the cause of issues with Plusnet email. Leaving sort at the default (Date Order) often clears up problems.

Well, 155Mb, using the 'standard' size email I get of ~11kB, amounts to 155 * 1024 / 11 = ~14,000 emails. So, if they were all in the Inbox...

This is just a rough guesstimate, so how many do you reckon you do have in the Inbox? I believe the Plusnet email system 'compacts' and 'uncompacts' messages stored in the Inbox at termination and start up and must use resources to do this. As I said, in my experience this process starts struggling at around 1000 messages in the Inbox.

You could try again in a quiet period, like in the evening.
