I know these “check my ip” sites provide detail of ISP, region, device, browser, ios blah blah. However, a friend tried it with their device (Plusnet is the isp) and saw their email address when they drilled down the isp no.
That can’t be right, can it? Why would Plusnet operate any differently to other isps?
Thanks

If they have a static IP , then the reverse DNS for their public IP will show <accountname>.plus.com

Second question- even if it was static, would that reverse dnd only be visible to him? Ie no one else? Ie somehow available through posting on social media, forums etc.
Many thanks again

So if they have dynamic (like most), the reverse DNS won’t show?
The reverse DNS for a dynamic IP shows as <ipaddress>.dyn.plus.net

The reverse DNS is available to anyone who knows (or can detect) the public IP address.
If it is due to a static IP rDNS then its possible for your friend to get a it changed to <ip address>.plus.com

Moving forward, wouldn’t it be easier just to change device settings to automatic?
Thanks for your time and expertise.

Will he need to approach Plusnet to do that?
If he changes it as suggested, will that prevent the email showing via reverse dns etc?
Regards

He will need to ask Plusnet to change the rDNS
