I need a fixed IPv6 address

I have a personal website that I manage from a fixed IPv4 address. The provider Netim now requires me to use a fixed IPv6 address.

How do I get an IPv6 address?

@Pootle001 Plusnet do not provide IPV6 addresses - looks like you might have to move providers.

@Pootle001  I've been using static IPv6 addresses over my Plusnet connection for more than a decade by implementing an IPv6 over IPv4 tunnel.  It works almost faultlessly, only adds a couple of milliseconds to connection latency, and the speed is pretty much indistinguishable from the native Plusnet IPv4 connection.

First check if your router is capable of supporting an "6in4 tunnel", otherwise upgrade to something that does.

Then sign up for the free Hurricane Electric IPv6 Tunnel Broker service.

Login to the broker service account and copy the unique tunnel settings listed, into your router's "6in4 tunnel" configuration.

You might need to open incoming ports on the IPv6 addresses within your router's firewall - if requiring external access.

Run  https://test-ipv6.com/  to check that your IPv6 is working.

Job done !.

Simple, it's free, and it just works perfectly. 😀

Yes I agree it might be "a bit 'specialist'" but probably the only solution if @Pootle001 insists on staying with Plusnet,

My connection uses about 86% IPv6 and 14% IPv4 on my router's incoming broadband connection.

The internet routing paths via IPv6 are noticeably more reliable than Plusnet's IPv4 routes, and often take fewer hops.

Watching streaming video is MUCH smoother and eliminates buffering via tunnelled IPv6 compared to Plusnet IPv4.

IPv4 NAT problems on game consoles are completely eliminated.

I wouldn't be without IPv6.

Probably because my computing needs are simple 😉

I'm no longer with PN, but when I was. I never had any issues - that I noticed. My routing with Zen is now IPV6, but as I do very little streaming, and no gaming, I see no noticeable difference

My PS5 is very happy on IPv4 and never have issues with streaming.

I'm quite happy without IPv6

@Pootle001, another option is to use an L2TP tunnel. I use A&A's L2TP service for £10pm, which gives a fixed Ipv4 address and a block of IPV6 addresses. It means you are then independent of ISP as you can move between ISPs (or use 4G as a seamless failover). 
It is similar to the A&A Home 1 service suggested by @Nibiru, but you pay A&A and also your ISP - however it may be still be cheaper than A&A (although depending on your ISP, with lower service standards)..
