Hi
I have opened ports 20, 21 and 55536-55567 on the Hub but FTP (non-encrypted) access to a shared folder, from outside my network is refused. Has anyone experienced this or know how to fix it?
Thanks
Jon

@J0N Welcome to the Community Forums.
What are the settings on your Plusnet Account firewall? https://www.plus.net/member-centre/broadband/firewall

Does anyone know how I can contact PlusNet technical support to solve this?
I've tried the phone number but there is no option for Tech Support.

There is no direct access to Technical Support to customers, if you're lucky one will pick up your question here, but they are not always here.
Which Hub are you using? Which NAS drive?
Does the Hub event log looking a category firewall show the inbound connection?
I take it you can ftp locally between your devices and the NAS drive?
Does the NAS drive have a firewall which needs to changed to allow foreign IP Addresses (not your network) to connect?

Not sure why you’ve opened port 20 but the rest of the details look like a passive setup.
Is your Client set up as passive or active ?
Can you connect to the server from within your local network ?

Hi @Champnet
I will ask the client re active/passive.
Yes, I can connect from within my local network, so it seems (to me) to be a firewall issue.
I will close port 20 and keep 21 open.

Hi Dan_the_Van
I'm using a Hub 2 with a Synology DS720+
The hub event log doesn't show the inbound connection.
Local connection is fine, yes.
The NAS has a firewall but it is turned off and I'm only allowing a specified user to access.

I've had a quick fiddle and I can get a port 21 FTP and port 22 SFTP download to work through my Hub Two, so something must be wrong with the rules. My plusnet account firewall is set to LOW.

I’ve just setup FTP on my Synology box using exactly the same settings as @J0N
ports 20 &21 do need to be open on the router.
client complained ‘insecure server it does not support FTP over TLS”
Using FileZilla changed to passive mode and connected.
@J0N once you get it working you do need to use a more secure setup….

You need to change the client to passive mode.

An active connection is my only option here, unfortunately. I'm not a pro networker so reaching the limit of my knowledge 😞
