Re: NAS shared folder, access using FTP through PlusNet Hub Two Firewall

Hi Champnet

On the NAS I'm using Synology's own, via Control Panel > File Services > FTP enabled

I have a DDNS set up via Control Panel > External User to point at my IP.

On a second computer I test access using FileZilla. It's on the same network so I disconnect it first and then connect through a tethered mobile phone on 4G.

The external user I have set up for access only has an active FTP or FTPS option.

Neither the external user, nor I, can connect.

Looks like Synology will only use passive mode.

In Filezilla , Site Manager, select your connection,

General Tab: protocol = FTP.

Advanced Tab: server type = Unix

Transfer Settings Tab: transfer mode = passive.

@J0N

You can check if the ports are open using this tool

https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

You have setup port forwards rules on the Hub Two?

@J0N  There’s a good guide here :

https://support.aceperipherals.com/kb/faq.php?id=230

the only open ports on your router should be 20 & 21 which should be forwarded  to your Synology box.

Re: NAS shared folder, access using FTP through PlusNet Hub Two Firewall

Hi Champnet

Thank you for your help.

The only option I have is Active Mode, so it looks like the Hub 2 is set up correctly now, but the block is the Synology NAS. I'll get in contact with Synology to see if they can support Active mode.

@J0N  Are you seeing any error messages or is it just not working ?

The external user says they can only connect passively. I've asked them for the active mode error message and will get back to you.

Re: NAS shared folder, access using FTP through PlusNet Hub Two Firewall

@J0N You definitely changed the transfer settings in Filezilla to passive ?

To eliminate any problems caused by DDNS try changing host IP in Filezilla to your actual external IP address.

If not known look here : https://www.whatsmyip.org/

Re: NAS shared folder, access using FTP through PlusNet Hub Two Firewall

@Champnet

Passive connection isn't an option for me. The external user doesn't use it and Filezilla was for my own checks only.

I reset the Hub 2, removed forwarding (active/passive) then reset ports 20-21 and it's working now.

Thank you for your assistance.
