@Baldrick1 That is a distinct possibility - but why would OR 'inform' end-users?

Anyone else had this communication?

Openreach free FTTP upgrade promotion starting 7 May 2025.

Openreach has announced that it will be launching a free FTTP upgrade promotion from 7 May 2025.

Are Plus.net lilely to ask me if it is something would want?  At the moment I have a Plusnet FTTC service. The contract expires on 20/9/25

@machare I am a little confused - the 'upgrade' to FTTP is always free - there is never a charge by OR for the 'upgrade'.

Can you post the, presumably email, that is telling you this? Obscure your email address, though.

My guess would be that Openreach are offering ISP's a free upgrade.

If so, this is nothing to do with we consumers, unless ISPs decide to pass the savings on.

Do not some CP charge a setup fee? Maybe this is what is being removed? Zen charge £15

Openreach would normally charge the ISP a fee for installation of FTTP. Most ISPs cover that using the monthly charges to the customer over the minimum contract period, but some ISPs make a separate charge. AIUI what is happening is that for ISPs who 'proactively' migrate customers, Openreach will waive those charges. That means that ISPs could either make a higher margin by keeping the existing monthly charges, or reduce their monthly charge. I assume OR are hoping the latter, to encourage more people onto FTTP.
