Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

Hi

my ring door bell interferes with other connected devices. If you are on a PC or wifi phone call and someone rings the doorbell the other connected device cuts off. Any ideas?

Re: Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

What is the upload speed on your internet connection ?

The ring doorbell will upload an HD video when someone presses the doorbell. Dpending on how good your upload speed is, it may 'swamp' the connection.

Hiya @KSW,

I have checked the estimates for your line and it is showing your upload speed of 1.2Mbps, it could be as MisterW says causing the issue.

Do you experience drops out when using other devices or streaming at all? or is it solely the bell?

@MisterW, it's FTTC, I've attached a screenshot of the estimates below:

I've also tested their line and the speeds are within the estimates, due to how long the line is back to the cabinet.

Here's the full test I've ran:

Re: Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

Yikes, that's one lo...ng line!. As you, say its well withing estimates.

Problem is, with only 1.2Mb upload , I dont see how its going to support a doorbell trying to upload HD video. I'm not surprised that any other devices lose internet access, the doorbell is going to be saturating the upload bandwidth.

@KSW You are already on Fibre To The Cabinet - do you mean Fibre To The Premises?

Re: Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

@MisterW aye, not as long as this line though.

@KSW, fingers crossed FTTP comes soon for you! You can check if there are any plans at https://www.openreach.com/

Just a thought - re-reading the OP

Has it been established whether the 'other device' just struggles to maintain any upstream data, are does it actually drop its WiFi connection to the router?

Re: Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

Or can the settings on the bell be changed to send lower resolution images?

Re: Ring Door Bell interfere with Other wifi connected devices

Not on the ring doorbell I have.
My neighbour had the same issue with a 1Mbit ADSL upload, saturated everything.
