Will I lose my email address

Plusnet are in the process of migrating my broadband and phone account to BT.

The changeover will happen soon and I want to know if I will lose my Plusnet email address(es)

when the changeover is done or will I have to change to   a BT address

Thanks  Roger

@Astridge

Yes, you will lose your PN e-mail addresses.

You can use any e-mail supplier (eg Google) you want but you will lose all historical e-mails if held on PN servers.

@Astridge yes, you will lose your Plusnet email address as soon as the transfer happens. You would have been advised of that in the 'sorry you are leaving' notification.

ICBW but I don't believe that BT offers email to new customers anymore, like many ISPs.

@Astridge

Yes, the account will be deleted. Be aware that if you have it set to IMAP all sent and received emails will be automatically deleted.

You will find advice on how to download and save these on your own device on the email board.

Re: Will I lose my email address

I assume you asked them to do this, as they shouldn't without  your express request.

To answer the email question - when you do get moved, your PN email will cease.

Thanks for that....its what I was dreading, I suppose it means I shall have to contact over 100 personal contacts to give them my new address?

Oh Dear!

I don't know if this is possible but if it's a major problem you could try phoning PN and canceling the migration until you get your e-mail sorted out.

If you exclusively use web mail then I fear that your address book will also disappear.

Can I ask why you are moving?

My PN contract ends this month so I rang to renew and the rep told me that all PNaccounts were being migrated to BT so

it was that or nothing...The deal offered was OK so I accepted

@Astridge That 'advisor' needs fully retraining - It has been confirmed by a senior PN staff member that this is NOT happening.

UPDATE

Rang PN and explained...all sorted...staying with PN ...quite a relief.

Thanks to all of you for the advice

Re: Will I lose my email address

@Astridge  for information , I've escalated this as it shouldn't have happened. Providing you did not wish to change products , you should have been offered a renewal of your contract with Plusnet.

Yes, if you wished to change products and keep a phone service, then BT/EE would be the only offered option unless you were happy to source your own VOIP supplier for the phone service.

@Astridge yes, that's exactly what you should have been offered in the first place and not been pressured to move to BT/EE!

Re: Will I lose my email address

@Astridge

Glad to hear things have been sorted.

While you'll retain your landline for now PSTN is being withdrawn by the end of 2025. PN are not offering a digital VOIP service so at some point they will pull the plug on the landline.

You might want to give some thought to e-mail as well in case you ever lose PN addresses.
