Tomorrow I’ve an engineer coming to install the new cables as I’m joining PN fast fibre 145mb. My question is, wherever he places the new box inside, does the new router plug into it or need to be plugged in nearby?

@JulieD42 The new Full Fibre box that will be installed is the ONT ( Optical Network Terminator ) Your router connects to it by ethernet cable so can be as near or as far away as you want it to be, up to 100 metres which is a bit extreme.🙄 But if you did want it in a different part of the house it can be done.

I see. Thank you.
Will the engineer need to access where the current phone line box is on the wall or doesn’t that matter? That’s currently in my bedroom where the router is now but we want to move the router into the hallway. We never plug a phone in anymore.

@JulieD42 - Firstly, the ONT needs a power supply. So it has to be within a reasonable distance to a power point. Secondly, the installation needs an entry point into your property, which is usually either via a hole drilled in an external wall or under your eaves. The ONT is then located close to the entry point and a power point. How your existing copper phone wiring is done within your house really has no influence on the new optical cabling.
I don't know your house's configuration so I can't comment on if the hallway you mention is a suitable location for the ONT. But, keep in mind, as mentioned in the previous post, that the location of the PN router can be distant to the ONT. You just need an Ethernet cable connecting the 2.
My experience with the installation engineers who did my installation is that they are quite knowledgeable and helpful in guiding you through the options that they can provide.
