ONT PON light flashing : new FTTP installation

We had a new FTTP installation yesterday. The O-R engineer used the copper cable to pull-through the optical cable from the pole to the house, thus severing our fttc connection. Line checked out but the connection to OR failed, so the PON is flashing. Plusnet CS are aware and an engineer is expected in three days. Very frustrating. If anyone can point me to a url to explain what problem is likely to be, at least I'd be better informed.

The Fibre circuit hasn't been configured correctly by Openreach/BTw. The installation engineer should have contacted them before leaving.

Re: ONT PON light flashing : new FTTP installation

Thanks. Fingers crossed so tight the circulation has stopped. Three days of waiting for something that should have been resolved on the day of installation!
'Well done' Openreach (not). How on earth they plan to terminate all fttc by Jan 2027 goodness knows.
I've ordered a MiFi as I have such a low expectation this will be fixed quickly. Can't see OR restringing copper to my house to reinstall fttc. Talk about retrofitting tech after trying to be at the bleeding-edge.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The LOS light isn't on , so there's a physical fibre connection. It SHOULD  just be a matter of the OR engineer contacting DCoE and getting the circuit (re) built correctly.

Re: ONT PON light flashing : new FTTP installation

I see that BT has a dedicated FTTC phone help line. Maybe Plusnet (as it's in the BT family) could share that? Could be useful to chase up these irritating connection issues. I have my ONT serial number but, hey, no-one to share it with for diagnostics.

Technically that is accurate,  but it is the analogue PSTN landline phones ending Jan 2027 not broadband over copper wires.

The migration of broadband from copper pairs to Full Fibre is likely to continue to the early 2030s,  at which point the television broadcasts to rooftop TV aerials starts getting switched off - so instead of over-the-air, all TV will be delivered via broadband.

It wouldn't help, that's BT Retails number,. Your problem needs Open reach and only the ISP can contact them

Re: ONT PON light flashing : new FTTP installation

Morning @stevebonline ,

I tried to call you to discuss the current situation with your fault and your order however I can see that you are on a call with another agent at the minute so I will allow them to continue.

Please let us know if you need anything further once you are done.

Thanks, Lex

Re: ONT PON light flashing : new FTTP installation

Lex. I appreciate the effort. Thanks.
I had a discussion with one of Plusnet's managers (CG) who is now coordinating a solution. Plusnet has two issues active for my account.
1) a fault on my fttc. This is wierd as the copper has been removed between the pole and my house (I have a pic of the master socket connected to about a meter of wire pulled through by the engineer when they removed the overhead wires to my house, but cannot see how to upload photo to the thread). No wonder there is a fault!
2) a new order for the fttp which has been installed and checks out (PON flashing) but will not connect to the exchange
What confuses me is that I assume the fttc ( now severed) would have to deactivated by Plusnet/OR and a new build of my account used by OR to activate the fttp.
Mind you I am a complete newbie and putting 2+2 together and most likely making 5.
Apologies for that.
Right now;
- I am being issued a MiFi
- an engineer 'may' arrive on Tuesday to look at the fault. When they see there is no copper from the pole to the house they 'may' reconnect the fttc until the fttp can be sorted
- I 'may' get an engineer to look at the fttp issue but not for another 10 days.
I am helpless, confused and resigned to the fact that I am stuffed. I didn't really appreciate how much we relied on the wifi and BB.

Fix
Sorted. Not sure how or why but the router connected. No OR visit that I am aware of. Grateful for support from Plusnet and community.
