Packet loss/slow response

Having had a week of my partner complaining how painfully slow the internet is, whilst my experience (working from home) on the same network was without a glitch, I realised that the difference is that I'm on VPN 24/7 on my work machine. So I installed Nord VPN on my personal laptop and can completely reproduce the problem.

Without VPN:

11 packets transmitted, 7 packets received, 36.4% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 27.143/53.693/135.015/41.748 ms

With VPN...

--- [any site] ping statistics ---

8 packets transmitted, 8 packets received, 0.0% packet loss

round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 9.239/10.546/13.500/1.708 ms

Not sure what to make of this. Any thoughts?

There do seem to be a number of Plusnet connections having trouble today -

Network issues? 

Connection issues with Cloudflare 

Slow connection - anyone else? 

but the problems apparently don't happen on other ISPs, via VPN, or using mobile data hotspots.

A forum Superuser has escalated these issues to Plusnet support who appear to have 'seen' the report despite being the weekend and out of normal working hours - so don't hold your breath for a quick resolution !.

Thank you for the reply. Today everything is working fine, so I guess they've fixed it.
