I've already got it  configured as an ethernet switch (plus another even older +Net router) - just need to turn off DHCP so it doesn't conflict with the primary hub (and tape over the annoying flashing light showing it's continually trying to connect to ADSL) 😎

oops - should have said:-

Just need to....

  • change its IP address
  • turn off DHCP

@geoffers

If you do not need to use the Hub 1 for wireless, something to consider:

If you compare the energy consumption of a hub 1 with that of a 5 port switch, you will probably find that the reduced running cost will pay for the switch in less than a year.

Re: Qustion re : Full-fibre cable routing into house

@Baldrick1 Good point - I've currently got it setup in the rear of the house (powered using a Smart plug) as a kinda home-cinema setup connecting TV; set top box; Chromecast TV etc wired up using ethernet (plus it provides a wifi extender which isn't really necessary), so only have them all powered up when I'm using the TV in the back.

However if I swap it to the front it'll just be on all the time, which as you say is heavy on the power...
