1572 - intermittent dial tone but no message?

my landline phone dial tone is persistently "intermittent", which should mean there's a message, but when I dial 1571 there is no message. I can't get the dial tone to reset back to a continuous tone, and while this is ongoing the modem won't connect to the internet unless I disconnect the phone. What's the fix for it?

Welcome to the forums @suemillard sorry to hear you are having the issue.

 

I checked the line to see if there is a fault and there isn't from what I can see. Have you tried another phone at all?

Hi Will - yes, I have tried another handset and also tried it in the master (incoming) socket, and that also gets the intermittent dial tone which I can't clear by listening to messages because there aren't any.

The tone has returned to normal - not through anything I have done!

Still puzzled, but Ok for now!

Oh that's good! Might have been an issue from the exchange side but the main thing is that it is all back to normal. I didn't reply before now as I was scratching my head with it Smiley Let me know if it goes down again though,
