Calls diverted abroad not connecting to answering service

I am not sure if this is a Plusnet issue. I have diverted my uk landline to my french landline. This works fine in that my french phone rings and the calling number is shown. However, if I don't answer within the standard five rings, the call should go to the Orange answering service. However it does not and eventually the caller gets a message that rules on France have changed and I should call the operator. But which one. This had always worked for many years but I cannot find any info about the issue and it's solution.

Re: Calls diverted abroad not connecting to answering service

Welcome to the forum. 🙂

I have no solution, other than to say that it's something that only the French provider can offer advice on.

A complex system that does not work is invariably found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine

@JCS45 assuming you've got a broadband connection in France, I'd be looking at VoIP. Convert your Plusnet account to broadband only, the port your UK number to VoIP.  Then with for example a VoIP adapter to connect your existing phone, you can take that with you to France and make/receive calls directly on the UK number. You save costs since you are not paying for redirected calls at international rates

Thanks. I will call Orange. It maybe their voicemail provider as since the last time I had this arrangement working, we have been migrated to full fibre to the house, and the telephony is a voip service. The announcement is in French but with a strong American accent. Doesn't sound like orange to me.

Thanks. I will pursue this as it may suit us better in any case. I see that Pnet does not offer voip with it's broadband so I will have to find an alternative.

"The announcement is in French but with a strong American accent. Doesn't sound like orange to me. "

I don't know, because I have never (knowingly) heard it, but that is how I have always imagined a French Canadian accent to sound?

Unless you make a lot of calls then A & A is a good option https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/

Initial cost to port an existing number is £15, then just £1.44/m. Outgoing calls 1.5p/min to UK landlines 4p/min to mobiles.

A suitable ATA (Analogue telephone adapter) e.g Grandstream 801/802 can be picked up for around £40.

It was £12 inc VAT when I ported to them last month, and still is, AFAIK.

Some routers, such as the FritzBox 7530AX that Zen Internet supplied me with, include that functionality, so no external ATA is required.

Re: Calls diverted abroad not connecting to answering service

@Mr_Paul thanks , I wasnt sure if the single line porting fee was the same as their normal setup. When I last ported anything to them it was the office 20 line block of numbers and so was completely different.

Appreciate that some routers have built in ATAs but since the OP is with PN , they're likely to be using a PN hub and (presumably) an Orange supplied router en France.
