Mystery Calls made every month for over a year to same premium rate number!

Just checked account as its due to be renewed but have just discovered strange call charges made every month.

The phone appears to be making 2 or 3 calls on its own each month to same 03301239375 number usually in the early hours around 2am for about 16 seconds with each call costing about 54p per call.

Anyone know how who this might be? or how the home phone can call a premium rate number on its own?

https://scam-numbers.co.uk/Number/03301239375/

Might be some software (virus) on a machine left switch on calling it.

@xChef 03 numbers are not 'premium rate' - they are charged at the same rate as 01/02 numbers.

There's an old answer phone attached and a Careline alarm, not sure if either of those could get infected with a phone bot virus 🤔

Ah - Careline. I'm guessing that is the culprit - they do 'ring out' to check the system is working.

See attached pic, 54p for 16sec seems pretty premium rate to me.

I don't know Plusnets phone charges these days, but from memory, there is a 'call set-up' fee and a minimum 1-minute charge, which could add up to 54p.

Thanks for reply was thinking the same but so far can't find anything online that confirms this but you may be right will continue to investigate.

Re: Mystery Calls made every month for over a year to same premium rate number!

Call set up fee is 32.47p. Calls to 01/02/03 numbers are 21.17p/minute. Rounded to nearest 1p gives us 54p for the first minute.

As I  suspected, @Baldrick1 , so thanks. No wonder everyone is going mobile  at those prices!

Or they use a service like 18185 for most of their landline calls,

Re: Mystery Calls made every month for over a year to same premium rate number!

Thanks for the information guys knowing now the minimum call charge is around 54p it now looks more likely that the Careline system is ringing home for a few seconds a couple of times a month and probably causing these mysterious charges.
