I am moving house and have organised to transfer my broadband service to the new property but was told that the landline could not be transferred. It was suggested I use my mobile phone instead but I am unsure what the reception will be like and so was told I could get VOIP added on at a later date. I cannot find any info about this service on Plusnet website, how much does it cost for the equivalent line rental and what about call costs? Sorry for my complete ignorance, hoping somebody can help, thank you.

Plusnet dont have a voip option. You can get voip from a third party supplier such as https://www.aa.net.uk/voice-and-mobile/voip-information/ . You will need some voip hardware though
Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
Is your info up to date? because I only arranged this 10 days ago and they gave me no impression that the VOIP stuff would be handled by a different provider!

PN do not offer a VOIP service.
There are many VOIP providers to choose from if you want a land line. Note that VOIP doesn't work during power cuts.
If your phone number is important to you you must "port" it out to your VOIP provider from the end of your current service.
A&A seem to offer reasonable deals and have good FAQ pages.

Is your info up to date?
Pretty sure it is!.
I will escalate this though , to check if someone is giving incorrect information.

A query that I have:
If the OP moves and starts a SOGEA contract at a new address, basically leaving the landline number associated with the old address, can a different VoIP provider still port the number to the same person even though they are living at a different address?
Put another way, is the right to port the number associated with the sddress, the original 'owner' (regardless of their location) or both?
I can understand the porting working fine at the same address, but at the same time as a move sounds as though it could be dodgy.

@Baldrick1 a good question...
This https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0018/212616/note-for-ota-eecc-switching.pdf in the 'right to port' section
Annex VI, Part C: The requirement that all end-users with
numbers from the national numbering plan, who so request can
retain their numbers independently of the undertaking
providing the service shall apply:
(a) in the case of geographic numbers, at a specific location; and
(b) in the case of non-geographic numbers, at any location.
would seem to indicate that its the owner at the specific location , and so would not seem to apply to a home move...

@frances12, are you moving in the same area code? If not then before VoIP you would be allocated a new number at your new address. Is it important that you keep your old number?
If so, then arranging a VoIP contract before you move would allow you to keep your existing number, even if it is in a different area code. If you wait until after you move it is unlikely you will be able to keep your number.
If you don't care about retaining your existing number you can just wait until after you have moved to set up a new VoIP connection.

I suggest you start the process of getting a VoIP service promptly so that you can order it using your current address.
Once it is up and running (on a temporary number) arrange a port of your current number (assuming you want to keep it) on the day you move house.
It will cease your phone line (and your broadband) when you port the number.
If your new service is with Plusnet and you are "mid contract" there may be some discussion to be had about the contract being ceased but at least you stand a good chance of keeping the phone number.
I've no experience of them personally but the general "vibe" about Andrews & Arnold is good and if you want something simple I would look at their service where they send out a cordless phone ready to use:
