Moving your website to the Homepages servers using FrontPage 2003

On 11th September 2009 Plusnet announced the decision to decommission their FrontPage web hosting platform. The FAQ that accompanied this announcement can be seen here. This article explains how to change your FrontPage settings to upload your website to Plusnet's Homepages servers. Before doing this you should ensure that you do not already have a website hosted on our Homepages server that you want to preserve. If you see a Plusnet holding page when browsing to www.username.plus.com * then you probably don't have anything hosted on our Homepages servers. * Force 9 and Free Online users should use www.username.f9.co.uk and www.username.free-online.co.uk respectively .
Open your website in FrontPage. Here we're using FrontPage 2003, older versions may have their settings in different places however the principle remains the same.
Click View menu followed by Remote Web Site.
Click Remote Website properties. You need to select the FTP radio button, enter the Remote Web site location as ftp://ftp.plus.net * and the FTP directory as /htdocs. Select the tick box to Use Passive FTP and click OK. * If you are a Force 9 or Free Online customer then you need to substitute this address with either ftp://ftp.force9.net or ftp://ftp.free-online.net respectively.
Select the Publishing tab, select the option for All pages, overwriting pages already on destination, tick the Include subsites checkbox and click OK.
You should be prompted for your Homepages username and password. This is the username and password that you use to log into our website.
Click the Publish Website button.
If parts of your website depend on FrontPage extensions then you may encounter the following error. If you do, click the Ignore and Continue button but expect certain areas of your website to not work when viewed on the Homepages server. You will need to redesign these aspects of your site to ensure that they continue working.
Once your site has finished publishing you should be able to view it by browing to www.username.plus.com ** ** Again, Force 9 and Free Online users should use www.username.f9.co.uk and www.username.free-online.co.uk respectively.
