Greetings,
I am on full fibre 500 at around £34/month. About to turn 80 and I don't stream, or do anything that really requires 500 speed. Have tried in past to get cost down but advised that Plusnet don't do this...
I would like to drop speed to a more reasonable cost level, but don't really want to leave Plusnet. Any ideas
Cheers,
Old guy.....

@forbes-38 I think you may have been 'misinformed' - there is nothing to stop you changing your package.

I suspect that Plusnet will not allow you to downgrade your package when part way through a contract. When does your current contract expire?
Once you are out of contract you can move to a lower cost service.

Good point. @Baldrick1 . I forgot that, as my ISP allows package changes within the contract period.

Are you 'out of contract' on your 500Mbps contract, otherwise how many months do you have remaining ?
As @jab1 said, there is probably nothing stopping you change speed tiers.
However, it is likely that if you downgrade to a slower speed tier while 'in contract' that you'd have to pay the difference for the remaining months (so probably not worth doing - as you'd effectively be paying the cost of the 500Mb rate while on the lower speed).
If you're 'out of contract' (or wait until you are) then you'd be in a better negotiating position to 'renew' to a cheaper lower speed for a new fixed term contract period.

Just in case you are in receipt of any benefits, I'll mention that social tariffs are available which can reduce the cost of broadband significantly.
The down side is that Plusnet don't offer a social tariff, but you can move to BT without ETCs if you qualify (I have a relative who has good experience with BT's social tariff).
