Payment increased before end of contract

So, I'm around 5 weeks from the end of my current contract, and received an email on the 1st Nov saying
"Your broadband and line rental contract is coming to an end on 3rd December.  When your contract ends your monthly cost will go from £24 to £51."

"Ok" I think, "I've got a couple of weeks to decide what to do about it".
I'd already moved to virgin a few months ago (paying for both) and was just changing email addresses with companies, so it's pretty much a done deal I was cancelling. So I logged into my portal to check a few things over before ringing them to cancel, only to see the last payment they took was around £57 (including call plan) on 3rd November.  A month before the contract was due to end, and when the email said it would actually go up.

They are reimbursing me for the difference of what it should have been, but just a word of warning to keep an eye out for your payments, particularly nearing the end of your contract. If I hadn't have logged in I'd likely have not noticed as I don't check statements all the time.

Shame PlusNet can't offer me any better speeds above the 22mb down and 2mb up I got due to the distance from the exchange, I've not had any issues with PlusNet service since dial-up days, and I'd have stayed if they could.
But 500mbs down and 50mbs up from Virgin for a similar price, was too good to pass up i'm afraid.

Re: Payment increased before end of contract

I have been similarly overcharged just before the end of my contract.

They are refunding this, but it is annoying and something to watch out for.
