Please make it possible to receive plus net emails after we've left

Dear Plusnet,

Please don't kill of the DNS names we've cherished for years or even decades.  Please don't turn off the email addresses we've shared far and wide, all these years.  We've been good customers, haven't we?

Thank you,

A longtimer.

For clarity:  Plusnet are of course totally within their rights to cease provision of certain services.  OK.  It would be really nice if they could find a way to provide a few years more access to the mailboxes of their customers that have been forced to move to other services.  I've had my plusnet username and email addresses for 19 years.  18 months isn't time enough to say goodbye.

Sorry, @jah but if you leave Plusnet, you lose your email address(es) - this has been company policy since June 2023.

I can understand why Plusnet wouldn't want to maintain an email service after a customer has left, as that involves server storage space, keeping backups, dealing with mailbox overflows, archiving idle accounts, maintaining a Member Centre page to email settings, etc, etc.

However, I think the compromise would be to let the leaving customer specify a forwarding email address for the domain of the closing account.  That way all email messages that arrive at Plusnet for the departed customer, simply get forwarded, without any filtering or other processing, to the customers new email service.

.

But that is not the way BT Consumer Division has decided that they will work.

This is an excellent compromise.  I would be happy to pay for it too.

But it's not going to happen, sadly.

You don't sound best pleased about it.  I feel that way too.  Hopefully it might be possible to persuade them to help.  I'd like to see them offer help to all those who have already left too.

The really sad thing is that this would be so easy to achieve, there are plenty of service providers who would happily do this in return for a small fee and the opportunity to push a manageable bit of advertising of their other services at subscribers.

They'd just take it over from PN at minimal effort.

Total lack of imagination and business acumen. 😭

Yes surely it's just a bit of DNS delegation and a little map of domain names to forwarding email addresses.  Can't be too hard!

My comment was in relation to your position - if/when they totally withdraw email services, I already have a back-up plan in place.

BT Consumer Division have made it clear the PN brand will only offer bare-bones internet access - nothing else.
