Plusnet Credit Report Missed Payments

So, I recently registered to get my credit report from Equifax and noticed that there were 2 plusnet accounts for plusnet mobile and these accounts are "in arrears" since March 2018. Every month since then, on both accounts, there are missed payments registered, right up until current month.

I phone plusnet billing and they manage to locate the accounts and tell me how much is outstanding on each (matches what's on credit report), now I'm SURE that I closed these accounts as they were 30 day rolling Sims, however i ask to pay the amounts as they're minimal but am informed that these were passed to a collections company a long time ago and I should contact them and am given the contact details.

Phone the collection company and they have no knowledge of the debt and advise me to get back to plusnet. Phone plusnet back and speak to someone who says that they need to look into this and that someone will get back to me.

A few days later, I get a call from plusnet to say that the accounts have been closed, there is nothing owing on either account and they apologise for the inconvenience.

Searching this forum I see that this has happened to a few others where by plusnet have continued to register missed payments against an account long after the customer has closed their account.

How do I go about getting plusnet to rectify their mistake and remove the 5 years worth of missed payments registered on my credit file.
