Re: Set-up Static IP

From the ispreview article, someone has commented that they called today and was assured they can still order this after their service goes live/installed on the 7th Jan

Re: Set-up Static IP

I moved from PN to BT and then back to PN. In the course I lost my static ip. No big deal except that it would have been useful for the Wireguard VPN server (used to access my NAS remotely) I was running on a Raspberry Pi. I therefore decided to run a script on the RPI that uses CPanel on my website to update the ip address. Problem solved.

Re: Set-up Static IP

@Townman

As well as other ISP’s there’s also options such as AA ISP’s L2TP service. The statement from PN says foreseeable future - be good to know what this means - one year, until contract renewal or change/upgrade of package.

Re: Static IP

Was going to call PN in the new year for this, looks like I will be holding on a while and looking for a new ISP instead when my contract finishes.

Re: Set-up Static IP

@Markuk

I suspect not even PN management know what the "forseesable future" means.

PN does have a history of maintaining legacy products long after they've been withdrawn.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Did your support staff not get the memo over Christmas then?
As I rang up earlier this week and they said it's offered still just not in account.
I ordered on the 23rd December, no notice on website or anything but I saw the statement submitted to ispreview said withdrawn from the 18th....

It's very unclear and unnecessary confusion when you should have it listed on your site as being withdrawn if that's the case? I'm about to start a 2 year contract and others offer this service so i would cancel the install if that was the case.

Customer support sent me an email with
"As discussed we can add a static IP to your account once the service is active.

To do this please call us on 0330 123 9123
"

I want to give benefit of the doubt, I think that covers me but I've been screwed by virgin media support in the past making false claims resulting in drawn out disputes for offers they lied about so id rather not have any faff if this is genuinely withdrawn? Not worth the hassle for either party!

Re: Set-up Static IP

Hi there @salxyz  thank you for getting in touch regarding the withdraw of static IP, regrettably I can confirm that Plusnet has removed the static IP option to new activations, users already having a static IP enabled will be able to use it as usual.

We currently don’t have any updates regarding when it will be discontinued for pre-existing users, we are awaiting for further comms in the upcoming weeks.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Hi there @norliss I've replied to an earlier thread but since I can't find it anymore, here's a copy of my previous response:

"Regrettably I can confirm that Plusnet has removed the static IP option to new activations, users already having a static IP enabled will be able to use it as usual.

We currently don’t have any updates regarding when pre-existing users will be able to continue to use their static IP, we are awaiting for further comms in the next upcoming months."

@Townman  @hicks12  I've highlighted this to management to ensure all departments are aware about the changes, thanks for flagging!

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Thanks for confirming quickly, I also appreciate your call center was very quick and painless to action my cancellation.

Although I haven't experienced your service for broadband I do appreciate actually having a working customer support line unlike some competitors! Hopefully your management realise this was a bit of an own goal as competitors offer it for no real fuss and it's just another check against the product list sadly.

@Tina11192

Can you confirm if those of us with static IP’s will lose this functionality in the next 60 days as per this post

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@Markuk Personally, I would treat that 'report' with some caution - for one thing, Plusnet have no 'business' customers - the service was closed last year, and as such, it throws the rest of the article into question, if they can't even get basic facts correct.

If that was going to happen, do you not think that Plusnet would advise customers?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@jab1 Who knows, but the static IP add on was removed and none of the community moderators knew -  it took some of them querying this with management to confirm this.  There’s been little to no comms from Plusnet about this and all the T&C’s and guides on the website help section for static IP’s have been removed as if it never existed.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

As the option has been removed, it is understandable that the guides have been deleted - anyone with a static IP knows all they need to about them, and it is pointless having them to advise anyone else.

As I said - there are no 'business' customers with PN now, so how they can withdraw the facility to them 'in 90 days' baffles me.

Where did the publication get this 'information' from?
