Re: Static IP no longer available?

@mwwagain I still think CS are wrong - a product change should not affect things on your account already.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

We’ve got Openreach installing FTTP in our street this week. Asked the team via Twitter if I would keep my static ip if upgrading to FTTP. Answer was if reconnecting same product then yes, but any upgrade would mean a loss of the static ip. Can’t post a screenshot of the response but copied and pasted below…

Good Afternoon Mark, and thank you for your message, as we no longer offer Static IP's if you were recontract as is this would remain the same however if upgrading you would definitely lose that option, Kind regards [CSA Removed] -Doncaster

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@Markuk Another 'wrong' response.

@MisterW Will they ever learn?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@MisterW Could someone at Plusnet add something to the help/faq section on the website that states for clarity for customers and CS staff what the status is?

Apparently not!

Could someone at Plusnet add something to the help/faq section on the website that states for clarity for customers and CS staff what the status is?

I'm not sure changing the faq will help and it would take time.

CS know what the situation is,they have reference material that tells them, they just appear to not be referring to it and mistakenly confusing things not available to new customers as not available to upgrading ones

While reset to a static IP should be certainly be made automatic, surely there is a physical/logical issue too.

My static IP is set in/via a DSLAM in a hut past the next farm behind the school.

My fibre will be set from the regional exchange in Perth - not even the same 01xxx number range.

Those two devices cannot exist simultaneously (ie changeover day) with the same IP can they ?

Is fibre on a different block of IP addresses anyway ?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

My parents have a static IP with plusnet, and kept the same IP when upgrading from ADSL to FTTP years ago as part of the trial

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@mwwagain I'm no expert on this, @MisterW is much more conversant, but your static IP is allocated to your account by Plusnet, not dependant on the DSLAM.

No it isn't. Dynamic IPs are allocated that way but not a static  They're allocated by the Plusnet gateway. When you make the PPPoE connection, the BTw concentrator queries the Radius server with your username and realm. This reports that the account is a Plusnet one and has a static IP. and so a connection is made to the PN gateway which allocates the static IP using your account details.

Thanks , that's what comes of trying to reply from my tablet, the screen is too small for my ageing eyesight!

That's why I avoid using the iPad for forums wherever possible. 😀

Re: Static IP no longer available?

As @LexLex2020  says an existing static IP address should be retained on an account change and that's regardless of the product you are moving from and the product you go to, be that ADSL, FTTC, FTTP, SOGEA or whether you had phone before or are just changing the FTTP speed.

If anyone does see it removed them please let me know and we can check why quite easily but having tested it and see that it does retain I'm pretty sure it won't.
