Yes, the village where I live.

You should not assume that all contributors to this forum are young.
Your problem is not affected by your age, but your location. Unless you have a fault one must assume that your connection has always been this slow.
If you want help transferring your email to another supplier so that you can shop around for a cheaper but equally slow broadband connection then there will be plenty of help forthcoming if you ask.

What you need to understand is that before the end of next year you will not be able to keep your Plusnet landline phone. The existing PSTN service is being retired by Openreach and Plusnet are not offering an Internet based alternative.
You will either have to move from Plusnet to an ISP that offers a 'digital phone' service running on the Internet, which will trigger the cancellation of your email service or, keep your Plusnet broadband and email service and move your phone number to a third party Internet based (VoIP) phone provider.
Your current combined services with Plusnet will cease to be an option in the not too distant future.
I can't argue against the fact that due to your location the cost is poor value for money.

Sorry, you still need the line to carry the broadband connection to your property.

Unfortunately:
- the options in the longer term will NOT include letting you have a wired phone, like you have at the moment. You can complain as much as you want, but nothing will change the fact!
- (ignoring Plusnet) some providers (eg BT) can provide a voice service as part of their ISP bundle, and all you have to do is plug your phone into the socket on the router, rather than your master socket.
- if you leave Plusnet, then you will lose your Plusnet email, and yes, it's a major pain in the butt! (which is why I stopped using an ISP provided email address a long time ago). Even if you DO move, you have to tell anyone who emails you (including many websites) that your email has changed. (Kinda like moving house, but there's no ability to redirect your mail!)
Many local organisations (eg Age UK) are now running "IT Help schemes" for us older people: they have many volunteers who would be very willing to work with you to migrate your service and email... look around, there may be some group near you who can help!

@stathe I've had a look and see that the sync rate is only 2.5 Mbps but this isn't due to any restrictions so there is something causing this to happen physically wrong. We need to progress a fault so the best way to do that is by sending an SMS with HELP to 07800008121 or you can call on 0330 1239 123 and we can help that way.
