Activation date missed by OpenReach and now keeps being changed

I placed an order for upgrade from FTTC to FTTP on 20th Oct 2022 with a confirmed activation date for 3rd Nov, but no show from Open Reach. Following a couple of long calls to Plusnet a new activation date of 2nd Dec was agreed and confirmed with all parties. Despite this date being agreed between Plusnet and Open Reach I received a further revised activation date from Plusnet last Friday changing the agreed date. Following another long call to Plusnet last Friday this activation date was changed back to 2nd Dec, again agreed with all parties, for which I received a fresh confirmation email. I have now just received another message from Plusnet changing the activation date yet again without my agreement, Now given that access is required to the property to activate the new FTTP service why does Plusnet/Open Reach keep changing this date without agreement? I am now in a position whereby I have had to cancel this latest Plusnet changed activation date as the previously confirmed date of 2nd Dec is the only date I could attend and arrange access and it appears that Plusnet/Open Reach are not able to keep to this last agreed and confirmed date.

I am now left very disillusioned by the level of service experienced and no further forward with the upgrade from copper.

Mike

Re: Activation date missed by OpenReach and now keeps being changed

This would be a good question to ask of the striking BT engineers. The unionised labour has no care or concern about the impact on you the user waiting for services to be installed.

The attitude within BT Openreach is not dissimilar to that of the GPO nationalised service of years ago: if you have to wait 3 months for a new line - tough we are the only game in town, you will have to wait.

FTTP installs need boots on the ground and there is not an infinite supply of them. I know that does not fix your problem but it is a realistic reflection on how things are.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Thanks for the reply Townman, you were certainly right in saying "that does not fix my problem". Today (25 Nov 2022) I received a text message from a 7800 number saying "Good news! We have improved your appointment from 02-12-2022 to 24-11-2022. Now as far as I am concerned time travel is not yet possible so what is going on?

PS. It would be great if they could stick with the previously re-confirmed appointment of 02-12-2022 pm.

Hi @Griff500

I'm really sorry to hear about the issues you've had with your order.

I can see you've decided to cancel the order for now and then replace it once you know when you're next available

Once you know when you are let me know and I'll get the order replaced

After the 3rd of November I will have a limited presence here as I have moved to a new role
If this post resolved your issue please click the 'This fixed my problem' button

Re: Activation date missed by OpenReach and now keeps being changed

You could well do without this being just out of hospital! In fairness to Plusnet nobody has any control over Openreach, least of all the ISPs and their customers. All they can do is book the engineers' visits and hope for the best, when OR finds something else to do they tell PN who in turn tell the hapless customer. Quite often OR doesn't turn up at all ...

I really hope this is resolved for you. Get well soon.
