Adding a wifi extender

Hi. I have recently received a Hub 2 from PN and it works fine although the wifi strength does not seem that much of an improvement.

With my Hub 1 I used a Netgear WN1000RP wifi extender which worked fine but I am unable to get it to work with the Hub 2.

I have used the wps function many times with no success. I keep getting "Connected without internet".

I can connect to the Hub 2 directly though.  Any ideas please?  TIA

Re: Adding a wifi extender

I set one up for an elderly friend a while back.

Did you reset it?

If not, power the extender up and leave it for a minute or two. Then with a paperclip or something like that press and hold the reset button on the underside - keep it pressed for around 10-20 seconds. Then try again.

If you're not sure there is an online manual

Re: Adding a wifi extender

Thank you DS.

I have reset the extender, many times. I have concluded that it is faulty so have ordered a different make.

I will post back again later.

Thank you.

@g3ucq

Have you tried setting it up manually, see page 10 of the User Guide. https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/WN1000RP/WN1000RP_IG_22Nov2013.pdf#page10

Hmm, but you said

I'd try what Baldrick1 suggested first before condemning it.

But if you've already placed the order for a different one and it's been dispatched then by all means keep the old one as a backup.

Re: Adding a wifi extender

Thank you both.

Last night the Netgear extender connected for a few minutes and then stopped.

I now have a TPLink extender which is working well (so far😉)

I will keep the Netgear in case I can use it sometime.

Thank you for your input.

Re: Adding a wifi extender

Why the following would matter I really don't know....

On the PNH1 you had the ability to split the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks - thus an SSID of something like (for the 2.4)

PLUSNET-use_BTs_old_routers

And (5Ghz)

PLUSNET-can_somebody_rich_buy_plusnet_from_bt

Whereas on the PNH2 both have the same SSID, although you could change the SSID

(both)

PLUSNET-why_can't_we_split_the_ssid

But anyway, good to hear you're back up and running!!👍
