Devices choose lower 2.4ghz and not 5ghz

One my Plusnet two router with dual band, I've noticed that devices are automatically connecting to 2.4ghz and not 5ghz

Is there any way I can stop devices choosing the lower, slower band?

Re: Devices choose lower 2.4ghz and not 5ghz

Are the devices 5Ghz capable? How far away from the Hub are they, and are there obstructions in the way. 5Ghz only works reliably over relatively short unobstructed distances.

@kbpharveyplus

Do ANY of your devices need 2.4GHz to operate ?

If not you could go in to your Hub Two configuration and simply switch off the 2.4GHz band.

To try that, watch this video where the relevant control is shown at time 1:20 - Changing your Hub Two wireless settings

Re: Devices choose lower 2.4ghz and not 5ghz

Yes I have some WiFi plugs and bulbs that need 2.4ghz

I temporarily switched off and the affected devices (eg. my phone)now use 5ghz so it shows that they can connect to 5ghz something is pushing them on to 2.4

However I need 2.4 for plugs and bulbs

Fix
I've resolved this now

I noticed 2.4ghz was set to "smart channel" (channel1)

I manually moved this to channel 11 and now affected devices now connect to 5ghz

@kbpharveyplus

This suggests that you have moved the 2.4GHz channel to a congested one, likely reducing its range/speed.

Are your other 2.4GHz devices still working as before?

Are you getting any faster speed on the devices now running on the 5GHz band?

Re: Devices choose lower 2.4ghz and not 5ghz

Yes 2.4 devices seem fine
5ghz are working great now, previously 80mbos now 300mbps (same as wired)
