Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

I have the same issue with the Hub Two router broadcasting a Hidden Network which still shows when the wifi is turned off but only disappears when the router is powered off.

@nigelc

@bobpullen Has confirmed that this is a ‘feature’ that will be addresses in the future. I admit that I had not noticed it but when I looked can see them on mine.

Why do you see this as an issue?

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

Sadly, my crossflashed TP-Link W8980 router has spontaneously rebooted a couple of times over the last few days.

I'm back using the Hub Two in bridge mode connected to an old TP-Link WDR 3600 wireless router and it's doing a stellar job until I find a more suitable replacement. It has a wireless hardware on/off switch so I can easily turn off the wireless signals when not in use.

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

Has there been any progress on removing this 'feature'?

I received a Hub Two yesterday.

Installed firmware:  v0.05.03.07154-PN

I did wonder why the hub gets very warm when the wireless is supposedly switched off.....until I checked with wifi analyser and realised there were hidden networks.

@bill888 - a fix won't be in the next firmware release I'm afraid (due this quarter).

Likely to be included in the the drop after, although I'm unable to provide any timescales at the moment.

No progress removing the Hidden Network. Still unhappy about it.

Let me know if you get anywhere turning off this 'feature'

Thanks

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

Until a firmware fix appears later this year, looks like only way to turn off wifi completely, is to use bridge mode on Hub 2 with an external router.

Another observation is the hub 2's web UI can some times take up to 10 seconds to appear when trying to load the page for first time.

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

New Hub Two received few weeks ago v0.06.00.12134-PN

Issue still persists

I am glad I have double checked here as I originally thought those two hidden networks constantly overlapping with my channels were part of our neighbour's warfare plan

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

I'm expecting a firmware update to be deployed over the next month or two that provides the ability to completely disable Wi-Fi transmission on the Hub Two.

Thank you.

Does this mean if the wifi is on, those hidden networks are actually a feature and meant to be there?

Asking because I am not planning, of course, to switch the wifi off. (At least, not permanently)

Yes, it's intentional.

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

Hi. I'm having trouble setting up a smart device on Alexa the manufacturer tells me the problem is that the device is not connecting to the same network as the Alexa device but I only have the one Plusnet 2 Hub, I have now found that I too have these Hidden SSIDs. Can devices connect to these Hidden SSIDs but give the impression that they are actually connected to the named SSID? If so I hope a firmware update will solve the issue.

@tremaihti No they can't - these SSIDs do not transmit/are 'dead' on the Hub2.

@tremaihti

Follow the link below, changing to Mode 2 might work, Hub Two is a rebadged BT Smart Hub 2 with a few changes

Re: Hub Two wireless switched off but still has unnamed 2.4GHz and 5GHz enabled

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately, I've already tied Mode 2 and 3, also swapped channels and switched off 5Ghz to only run 2.4Ghz and it still won't set up correctly in Alexa. The manufacturer says they have extensively tested and can only replicate my situation when the device and Alexa are connected to different networks, I only have one network but duel band. the device will only connect to 2.4Ghz, but with the 5Ghz turned off and all devices connected to 2.4 it shouldn't be an issue. When I found the hub transmitting the Hidden SSID I was wondering if this could be causing the problem.
