Hello,
Our 7 month old Hub2 router has developed an awful whining noise and seems to be running quite hot. I've seen a lot of post about the Hub1, and how it's within spec etc. but nothing much about the hub 2.
Any thoughts?
It's so bad we'll need to turn it off overnight to be able to sleep.
Obviously we'll contact Plusnet directly tomorrow, but in the meantime, is there any information on this issue?

Is the noise coming from the router's mains power adaptor, or the router box itself ?
If you have access to a multimeter, you could measure the DC voltage coming out of the power supply barrel connector - it should ideally be within 5% of the rated voltage, but if the output is worse than 10% from rated then it could damage the router.

Thanks for the quick response PlanetX - I'm getting 12.08 V, so well within spec - thanks for the suggestion, one thing ruled out.
re: Is the noise coming from the router's mains power adaptor, or the router box itself ?
It's definitely the router, the power supply is through a wall and hidden away.

At least the power adaptor is OK, so you should be alright using the router until a replacement arrives.
If it had been the power supply, then I would have advised to unplug it, as it's not unknown for whining PSUs to overheat, start smoking, and melt !
