Your television already has wifi that works. These are typically used for devices such as laptops that either do not have wifi or a faulty chip.
The advice here is based on users with hundreds if not thousands of hours of real experience of problems. If we cannot help you just go back to Google and find a workaround that suits.

The conversation seems to have veered towards Powerline adapters, however just wanted to comment to say that where the two Wi-Fi bands are concerned, it's also worth checking the spec of the TV. I know a lot of smart TV's literally do not have a 5GHz radio. Obviously if this is the case, it will only ever connect on 2.4GHz.

Tv DID connect to the network through the adapter.
Will update with outcomes.

IPlayer etc has now been stable for over a week.
I was doubtful because the tv runs off a different electrical circuit to the router (where the first adaptor is also plugged in) but it has worked.
