Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

Hi,

My broadband is working on smartphones and tablets but won’t connect at all on smart televisions. When inputting Wi-Fi password the first television states ‘authorisation failed’ and the second states ‘limited connection’. As a result, neither can access apps etc.

Plusnet didn’t seem to know how to sort and pointed me in this direction.

Any help would be appreciated.

Best posted in ROUTER forum not here.

If your router has 2 band capability [2.4 and 5ghz], ensure the SSID's are unique.
SMART TV's probably only function on 2.4ghz.

@Gel  Unfortunately if @Alec44  is using the supplied Plusnet Hub2 router it is not possible to split the wi-fi bands, they both have the same SSID.

Re: Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

Nothing seems to help ie resetting router, contacting Plusnet where they tried to resolve in the background. They then directed me to the forums.

As I’ve exhausted all options, am I likely to get a positive response from Plusnet if I request one of their technicians come to my property to fix issue?

Fix

@Alec44

Try switching OFF the 5GHz WiFi in the Plusnet Hub Two, and see if your TV connection works any better ?

Watch this video - YouTube : Changing your Hub Two wireless settings

then at time = 1:20  you should see the web page shown below,

then toggle the 5GHz wireless to OFF, then hit the [Save] button.

Re: Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

@Alec44 When it is your own equipment which is displaying the fault, a visit from Openreach - even if they would sanction it, is unlikely to solve the issue. Plusnet do not have any 'technicians' - they are an internet provider, not an electrical service company.

Your best bet is to contact a TV service company.

These days they are barely anything more than an Openreach product reseller, with minimum support, and just taking the money.

@outcast that is basically what any ISP using the BT network is.

Re: Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

I’m still having (partial) issues with this-1 of the televisions is working without any problems but the second still is not working with internet, still states ‘limited connection and won’t connect to any apps. Whilst I did ensure that I was clicking on the right network, one thing that was really odd was that once I input the Wi-Fi password that not only did it come up with ‘limited connection’, it also had a completely different IP address to that of which I have with Plusnet. Any ideas……please?

Different IP? Could you please post that IP back, the first three numbers will do i.e. 192.168.1.***
That's RPM to you!!

Re: Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

@Alec44

That IP address seems reasonable.

Does your TV have any sort of "Network Check" in it's menus ?

that reports things like -

  • Default gateway
  • Primary and Secondary DNS
  • IP address
  • and anything else

Re: Internet won’t connect to Smart Televisions

I can’t see anything about network checks on the menu. I think I might just leave it for now and get a television repairer out as it’s beyond my capabilities.
