Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

Hi

Router has both wi-fi bands enabled.  Periodically I cant connect to devices on the other band.

eg Mac on 5, Raspberry PI on 2.4.

Shutting down the 5 band, and then re-enabling appears to be the only fix.

Anyone else had this?

Firmware version: v0.10.00.04201-PN

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

@JackLDN That doesn't quite seem right. Is the device losing connection normally on the 5Ghz band, and are you moving it around ?- the 5Ghz band is a bit 'fussy' about the distance between the router and the device, and has a  considerably shorter operational range.

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

It is .. RPi on 2 and mac / apple devices on 5.

devices on the same band are fine.  it's just crossing the two that breaks.

Thanks for answering

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mea by 'crossing the two'? What are you using the RPi for?

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

mac ---- 5ghz wifi ---- router --- 2.4ghz --- RPi

                                      |

                                      |

                               Internet

some dreadful ascii art.

normally, mac and Rpi can communicate.  both can use the internet.

failure is when the mac cant communicate (ping) the rpi or vice-a-versa.  mac can talk to other devices on the 5g and the rpi on the 2.4.  everything can get to the internet.  mac and rpi are examples here, any device on each wifi band can ping each other, but not to devices on the other band.

Think I know what you are saying here, but it is venturing outside my area of knowledge. I'll see if a couple of cleverer members have any ideas.

@Dan_the_Van  , @MisterW  ?

@JackLDN

What are you trying to do when you lose the connection?

when you ping are you getting an error message, when the fault appears can you check the devices are on the same network IP Address wise still?

Not MAC user myself most I have many wireless devices, I've not had this issue with my Hub Two, I suspect you've already tried a Hub reboot?

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

@Dan_the_Van  Does the Hub Two have the option of a Guest network which these devices may be connecting to should they drop their normal network ?

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

@JackLDN  When the problem occurs you'e saying that devices on 5g  can't talk to devices on 2.4.

Unless you've miised out some devices there seems to be only a Raspberry PI on 2.4.

Therefore :  When the problem occurs you're saying that devices on 5g  can't talk to the Raspberry PI.

Unfortunately I know nothing about the RPI, anyone know if there's a setting in the RPI that says

'On network error ignore any request from the 5G network,'  Of course not but someone may have seen a similar problem...................................

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

varies.  i use the rpi as a NAS and media server.

IP addresses are fine.  In the image above there are other devices on each of the wifi bands.  they can talk to each other within the same band.  and the internet.

i posted here in case it was a known issue, it seems not - sadly.  i can continue to triage.  i might just kill 5ghz.

Re: Losing network connectivity between WIFI Bands

afraid not - but thank you for posting.

i'm confident this is not a device issues (mac, pc, rpi, other) as they all operate ok - until it goes wrong, and then they continue to operate, but only on the wifi band they exist on.
