New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

Hi Guys

I have been on Plusnet for years and my setup has always been i use a Huawei EchoLife HG612 3B FTTC VDSL MODEM G.INP NTE BT openreach ta act as a modem only. This then feeds into a my Opensence router on its own unit.

Can i replace my Huawei EchoLife HG612 with the Hub 2 to act as a modem only? The Huawei EchoLife HG612 only supports download up to 100mb, so no use for a 900mb download.

If possible how do i accomplish it bit of a noob with Hub 2 units.

From the home page http://192.168.1.254 navigate to >Advanced settings >Broadband

The 'bridging Mode' switch is at the bottom of the page, use LAN 1,2 or 3 for your router connection

@OsoPolar You do not need a modem with Full Fibre. The ONT performs that function, so you just plug the Opensense kit into the ONT and set up the PPOE credentials on it.

If you are Full Fibre you can ignore my post

so no use for a 900mb download.

@OsoPolar  as @jab1 suspects, from the above you now have a Full fibre(FTTP) connection , is that correct ?

In which case then as John says, just connect your Opensense kit directly to the ONT. It should need no configuration as since you were using an HG612, the PPPoE credentials must already be in the Opensense router.

The bridge mode on the Hub 2 bridges the DSL port to the WAN port and so is of no use (in fact cannot be used) on an FTTP connection.

So, when the ONT is installed, connect your kit direct to the ONT, dispensing with the HG612.

The bridge mode on the Hub 2 bridges the DSL port to the WAN port

A slight correction to the above , its actually bridges the DSL to the LAN ports

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

@OsoPolar   You don't need any VDSL2 modem when FTTP is installed your connection is via ethernet from the ONT so as @jab1 says connect your OPNsense router directly to the ONT.

The Huawei modem and the Hub2 are no longer required.

So for clarity i can get rid of the Huawei modem see image and connect direct to the Opnsense unit from ONT ( Optical Network Terminal) unit.

Still waiting for Openreach to turn up having cancelled the appointment 4 times  !!!!

Yes!. Take the ethernet cable that currently goes from the Opnsense unit to the modem, disconnect it from the modem and connect it to the ONT. Job done! well not quite, switch off the modem, disconnect it from the line and dispose of it...

If you are having Full Fibre to your property you will get one of these installed

openreach-ont.png

PORT is where you connect the OPNSense WAN connection removed from the Openreach modem LAN1 port,

There should be no need to change your plusnet broadband account details.

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

The static IP is associated with the account, so yes it should remain in place after the account upgrade.

@OsoPolar what's the spec for your Opnsense router ? is it going to be capable of handling the 900Mb ?
