Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

As stated I am using a Dream Router, with the plusnet hub two in bridge mode. After putting my PPPoE details in I am up and running fine however I seem completely unable to port forward. I figured it might be something to do with not having a static IP so I have bought one from plusnet but the issue still seems to be ongoing. Have I missed a step somewhere, has anyone faced a similar issue? Thanks

It shouldnt be a problem but just in case...

Login to your Plusnet account and then go to https://www.plus.net/member-centre/broadband/firewall

Check that it shows OFF , it not then set it to OFF. You will have to disconnect & reconnect the PPPoE session fro any change to take effect.

Thanks for the reply, that takes me to a blank page so I can only assume its already disabled?

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Its not available on more recent accounts , so that's probably why its blank. Worth checking though...

When you try to make the connection , is there anything in the Ubiquiti logs ?

Yeah I have only been with plusnet a couple of weeks so that will be why.

Nothing I can see in the regular logs. It does provide the option to log the port forwarding rule itself, which I have enabled and don't see anything for that either.

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

If the connection attempt is reaching the router, I'd expect either an intrusion log or a confirmation of the forward.

Are you connecting directly using your IP ? are you sure that is the IP you currently have ? either check on the router WAN connection or use something like https://whatismyipaddress.com/

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

I've tried connecting to the static IP and used online port-checking tools, I've even gone as far as setting up a quick game server and asking friends to connect to that, so far none of which have worked.

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Online port checking tools only work if the device application is waiting (listening) for inbound connections, can you connect to the device on your local LAN to prove it will accept a connection. telnet is a handy tool for that test.

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Looking at this link https://www.wundertech.net/how-to-port-forward-on-unifi-devices/ I see it is possible to set Inbound connections (From) to a Limited network range or Any. Did you set the rule to be Any?

A matter of interest what are you trying to forward, have you thought of testing the port forwarding rule will work on the Hub two?

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Right now I'm testing it with a Minecraft server (don't judge lol, just done it a million times so its the easiest way for me), my current rule is indeed set to Any, I've not tested it with my Hub Two but I'm about to head out so I'll test it with that when I'm back home. Thank you and MisterW for your replies so far!

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Ok just got back and can confirm that port forwarding just with the plusnet router does seem to be working fine, which I find a little puzzling. Any ideas what the issue could be?

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

To confirm, with the Hub Two in 'bridge mode' the light is a purple pink colour?

If you are happy can you post a picture of the Ubiquiti and Hub Two port forward rule you have created?

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Yes it is indeed pink, sorry I've already put it back in bridge mode so I cant right now get a photo of the old port forwarding rule. Though it was very similar to this except on my UDR setup I've set that IP as a fixed IP for my PC.

Re: Unable to Port Forward using a Ubiquiti Dream Router

Got a sneaking feeling I've done something wrong with my initial setup, so just posting this if anything jumps out to anyone.
