Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Kel1980

If you leave the DSL cable out, go off the settings page and come back has it lost the settings?

Are you inserting your user name the same way as you enter it when accessing your Plusnet account followed by @plusdsl.net, for example fredbloggs@plusdsl.net and your account password?

Explain exactly what you do and what happens after you enter your Plusnet credentials.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Kel1980

If you have it now saving your Plusnet username and password then switch it off using the switch on the back,  Leave it a few minutes then switch it back on with the DSL cable plugged in, check that your account details are still stored correctly then leave it alone for say 20 minutes or so as it might be updating it's firmware before coming to life.

The other possible snag is that some versions of firmware do not like special characters in the Plusnet account password. If you have any in yours then log into your Plusnet account and change it to just alpha numeric characters. Ignore any messages about using special ones.

If neither of these work do you have any means of copying pages from the hub here so that we can see what's going on?

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Hi @Baldrick1 So now completed a factory reset and the 5ghz is showing on so thats a start, have seperated the 2.4ghz from the 5ghz and has added the 5 at the end in the name (BTHub6-****-5). However it is not showing anywhere in the settings on any of my connections, they are all connected to 2.4ghz. If I disable the wi-fi on my phone then enable wi-fi it only brings up BTHub6-**** any further suggestions would be appreciated.

@mort7890

Does it work with other routers? Are you looking in the right place, that's the device available wireless networks? Are your devices fairly modern and support 5 GHz, not all do?

Of course there may be a fault with the Smarthub, do you know any-one else with a phone etc. to check?

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Hi @Baldrick1 I changed from the PN Hub to the BT Hub to get better wi-fi coverage I had 4 connections on the 5ghz on the PN one so me thinks I should switch back and return the smarthub as faulty (was supposed o be a brand new one).

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Hi @Baldrick1 Okay so this morning thought I would put the PN hub back in situe so shut down the BT hub, realised I had some urgent info I required so re-booted the BT hub and yes you have guessed correct the Bl**dy thing worked fine. Damned technology for you, the only thing I have noticed is that the BT Speed test is reporting a slow speed at the moment but I am presuming/hoping that will improve over time, or maybe after a few days a reboot might refresh it back to what it should be. Just thought I would keep you posted.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@mort7890

How much is your speed lower? The chances are that with all your swapping around and rebooting the DLM has kicked in thinking it's a fault and slowed the line. If so it's most important that you leave it be and not reboot it so that the DLM registers no drops and restores your speed. So if it's working and the drop is not significant then just leave it alone for a few weeks.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Hi @Baldrick1 Down by 50% so as I also thought the DLM has kicked in it has increased by a couple of notches since my last test so yes I will leave well alone for some time now. Many thanks for your communication and kind regards to you.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Many thanks Baldrick 1 for your excellent instructions on setting up the BT Home Hub 6 on a Plusnet account. My wi fi is now much faster and stable and has a far greater range.

My only issue now is that google maps (and apps that use googles data), think that I'm in another part of the country. I'm hoping that the wrong location will either rectify itself soon or that you or any other members of this excellent community may be able to offer any advice.
