@Ben1

Ah, my favourite mantra “When everything else fails, read the instructions”.

You are not alone. Pleased to hear and thanks for telling us that you’ve cracked it.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

My switch from BT to Plusnet completed today.

I noticed that my BT connection terminated in the early hours of this morning, so I tried to connect to Plusnet by clicking disconnect in the Advanced Settings page and entering my Plusnet username & password. The new details remained populated but after 60-90 seconds of "Connecting..." nothing happened. Tried this several times.

I tried changing the page after about 60 secs but this didn't make any difference. At this point I decided to go back to bed as it was 4.30am!

Tried again when I got up at 7am and it was just a repeat of the previous attempts - just wouldn't make the connection.

At this point I decided to do a factory reset (after backing up the updated settings first). Uploaded the .conf file and as if by magic it connected to Plusnet - this was at 7.30am.

Within a minute of two I received a text message to say my broadband service was now live - I'm not sure if this was just a coincidence or if the broadband literally went live at that time. If so, then that would explain why I couldn't get connected before. If not, the factory reset and restore of previous settings did the trick!

Initial speed is a little faster than BT (64Mb vs 60Mb) so all good so far! 👍

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@JSM15

The  BT disconnect/changeover is only part of the process, after that Plusnet have to activate your account, hence the break in service. You did really well, Plusnet can take up until midnight to do their bit.

When you change ISP the DLM is usually reset. Depending on your line performance you might find that this drops back over the coming days.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

Two more quick questions, 1) does the interface show me my password (I wrote it down just wanted to confirm) and 2) I don’t easily seem able to change the name of the router, even though the BT instructions are pretty clear. Thanks again!

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Ben1

Which password? The Hub admin password and the wireless password are on a pull out tab on the back of the hub. The account password is just that. If you ever lose it just go to log into your Plusnet account and  select ‘lost password’. Are you using the correct one?

You need to use the admin password to get to the Hub’s advanced settings to change the wireless SSID and wireless password.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Baldrick1 Just out of interest, do the BT Hubs still receive firmware updates when used with Plusnet?

@JSM15

I have not used one for some time but they were and I have not heard that it has stopped.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Baldrick1 BT have emailed asking for the return of the Smart Hub but I have a Hub 5 in a cupboard somewhere. I'm assuming this will work too, but can't remember whether it allowed you to change the broadband username & password?

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@JSM15

It will work but why would you want to use it rather than the Plusnet hub?

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Baldrick1 I didn't opt for a Plusnet hub when switching as I already had two BT hubs, and didn't see the point in getting another hub and paying a delivery fee for it.

Re: Using the BT Smarthub 6 on a Plusnet Account

@Baldrick1 Just spoken with BT live chat, explained the situation and asked if I could keep the HH6 given that I'm using it with Plusnet (part of the BT group). They were fine with that and have now marked it as returned 👍
