Is there anyway to buy a booster for connections? As my WiFi upstairs isn’t as good as downstairs…

The important thing is the backhaul - the connection between the network (router or switch) and the wireless point. It should wired using UTP cable. It’s easy to repurpose an unused router as a wireless point.

As others have said, there are many extenders available, and/or you can use an unused router.

Another alternative might be to see if you can move your one existing router. If speed (downstairs) is more than you need, then moving it upstairs - or to the side of the stairs! - might in theory slow it down a bit if it means using an extension lead (though I've not found that to be the case), but make the upstairs wifi better.

And/or, putting different aerials on it. Most routers these days don't have an external aerial (they have one, but it's inside the case), but if it does have an external one, try a different one - or, just try moving it first. (Aerials should be at right angles to the intended direction of communincation - so if it's currently vertical, that'll favour the floor it's on; make it horizontal.) And/or just experiment with the orientation of the router, but don't compromise its cooling/ventilation.

If it's possible you should run ethernet cable upstairs and create a WiFi access point. The cable gives you a solid starting point.

If you'e getting Full Fibre installed today then it's worth thinking about your overall network in the house given you'll have the speeds available.

To get an ethernet cable upstairs consider getting someone in to run an external cable up the outside wall to upstairs terminated at ethernet wall jacks. Not the cheapest option but it gives you a good solid starting point upstairs and is future proof.

As an alternative to a cable, you could use "ethernet over mains"... and if you get the right kit, the upstairs "plug" can ALSO include a Wifi AP in it.

One thing to remember is that LOCATION is VERY important. Having your wifi down low, behind the furniture may LOOK nice, but it's not going to WORK well. Put the router / AP as high as you can: on top of a cupboard is good.

Imagine it's light: if you want good light in the room, then it's no use hiding it behind the sofa!
