Re: Broadband Usage

I have now downloaded networx. I was clicking on one of the advertised sites instead of moving page down and looking on the left. Thanks for that. However, I still can`t see how I used nearly 1 Gb on Thursday. Would plusnet be able to tell me how I got to this amount ?

Re: Broadband Usage

Networx will only tell you the usage while it is running
All Plusnet would be able to tell you is when it was although they might be able to identify the type but I am not sure of that
Have you looked here to see the traffic classified by type https://portal.plus.net/view_my_broadband_usage/index.php to see where it is all going

Re: Broadband Usage

I have sent a question about my Thursday usage through help & support. I always look at my usage as you have pointed out. Nearly all my usage is just classified as Web, with a small amount of streaming. Thanks for your help.

Re: Broadband Usage

Did you visit any websites with image galleries containing high-resolution pictures? Your browser history might have a record of web sites visited on that day.

Re: Broadband Usage

Didn`t visit any sites like that. I did what I normally do. Checked e-mails, played on-line golf, small bit of browsing. My wife usually plays on-line slots (not for cash !!), but most of her play is after midnight. I did a lot less than I ever did on TalkTalk. As I said, I have cut down my usage as my figures show.

Re: Broadband Usage

I had reply from help dept. They say that the figure is accurate and that it was used between 7&8 pm on the Thursday. This is rubbish. Between those hours,  I did exactly the same as I did on other days. I play on-line golf while wife watches soaps and this does not use nearly 1Gb in an hour. This was the only programme I had open on my PC. You only have to look at all my other figures. However,  I got nowhere as expected !!

Re: Broadband Usage

Bob, was this watching soaps on the TV or on-line, just for clarification.
Also just another point to save confusion in the future, you have been referring to Gb when you really mean GB (a byte being 8 bits)
I can't recall asking, are you using your wireless connection and if it is on is it secure?
Edit: It could be useful to know how that supposed traffic was split between Downstream and Upstream .
Did you also check the Safe Surf and the Broadband Firewall I mentioned http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,109140.msg934399.html#msg934399

Re: Broadband Usage

We found a problem on your account in our systems and have corrected it now so the spurious usage will stop. As this additional usage wasn't caused by you, we'll happily refund around £5 of usage if you go over your allowance this month.

For all the reports we've seen of 'spurious usage over the years this is probably the first time I can recall an actual erroneous recording being confirmed. Can you say any more about what was wrong? Could it affect any other users.

Re: Broadband Usage

Well, after all the comments I`ve had, it proves I was not telling any lies. Maybe now I can stop checking my usage every 5 minutes !!. Would still like to know how it happened though.

I've seen 3 examples of this over the last 2 or 3 years, so very unlikely to happen. We do have an internal problem open on it to fix and I'll try and find out the status.
