Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

As for myself money is getting tighter , so a down grade from 80/20 looks to be on the cards
But there is no way I would take a 40/2 connection 😤

9.5Mbps is what all ISPs are supposed to quote, but we all know it as 10Mbps

ie 38/9.5 is 40/10

Before moving to Talktalk on cost/speed grounds, it is worth ringing PN retentions to see if they would match the Talktalk prices and provide an acceptable upstream speed.

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

i think it's hightly unlikely they would supply 80/20 at 40/2 prices.
they can't/won't offer 40/10.
they can supply 55/10 to certain customers though.

...but with up to 38Mbps DS would you notice?

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

I don't think PN will not offer 40/10 to any of us for a moment because they are always the cheaper but not anymore. TalkTalk 40/10 and 80/20 are the cheapest now in the marketing.

It's time for PN to ACT FAST or they going to lose everyones on 40/2 to other isp's such as TT or BT who willing offer two options: BT on 55/10 or TT 40/10 rather than expensive PN on 40/2.

P.S. My parents doesn't like uploads of 2Meg but they prefer 10Meg. Hopefully it will change all that in due course but I doubt PN will because they won't listen to customers view.

I think 40/10, 55/10 and 80/20 are far better than 40/2 (outdated now)

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

If they do I'll be asking for a downgrade from 80/20 to 40/10   The only reason I switch was to get the faster upload, as my line cannot go beyond 35 Mb/s down.

Ordinarily you can't get 80/20 in tis case but there was a very helpful PN member of staff that made that happen for me.

Plusnet seem don't care. I been asked them and they say no, Plusnet remain 38/2 will NOT do the same as other isp such as 40/10. They say it would costy them to modify like re-order from 40/2 to 40/10 by supplier.

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

The only thing that will change their mind is if/when they detect significant migration away to other ISP's who offer faster speeds.

Until then they will concentrate on being the low cost provider (as long as you are not in a market 1 area).

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

Any change of product won't happen until next year when Ofcom should have announced new lower pricing for 40/10 which will be cheaper than the cost of 40/2 that's when plusnet will likely replace it with 40/10. The final agreed price for 40/10 will come into force from 1st April 2018

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

Not really. Plusnet can have 40/10 if they really want. The customers on 40/2 are probably no way to wait until next April for that to be happen because next April 40/10 will be available for new customers while the rest of existing customers are probably wait so long for upgrade to 40/10 from 40/2 each turn.

Re: FTTC 40/2 - talk talk now offer 40/10

Plusnet won't order 40/10 for anybody because it would cost £1 more per month at the current price. They will in April 2018 as it will no longer be cost effective to keep customers on 40/2 if anything Openreach would be better phasing out 40/2 once 40/10 goes down in price as it will be a pointless product. From what i read it talktalk approached it by upgrading existing customers first followed by changing their offer for new customers to include higher upload. People need to remember plusnet is a bargain basement business you get what you pay for and they are unlikely to budge until price change happens next year. I will say that origin broadband and talktalk are currently out doing plusnet in terms of offers for 40/10 vs plusnet latest offer for 40/2.

and now Sky offer 55/10 for those who can't get better speeds on 80/20 http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/08/sky-broadband-quietly-add-52mbps-fttc-sky-fibre-unlimit...
