Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Well maybe tijara33, however the last one I sent didn't miss and hit the wall.
Albeit some time ago, I had 3 senior engineers on my doorstep inside 12 hours and broadband finally and successfully installed after an 18 month battle.  Wink

Think it may well be a lot less than that in Northern Ireland, especially outside the Belfast area.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

The reason why they lack skilled engineers is because they made them redundant so they could take on cheaper unskilled. The last engineer I spoke to had been with BT for 26 years yet they were trying to make him take redundancy whilst admitting they were short of skilled staff. Stupid or what>

Many thanks to all concerned for trying to do something/anything. However, BTOR appear to simply ignore all of us. I spent some considerable time today looking for a way to lodge an official complaint against BTOR but am just getting a sore head from all the brick walls I'm hitting.
Is this something that has to be done through PN? No rush on this as I would need to calm down before I do anything more.
Their excuse for the engineer "no show" was "they have advised that unfortunately they are struggling for skilled resource in your area". Tell me something I don't already know BTOR.
In the longer term that it looks like BTOR are unable to fulfil there contractual obligations to either PN or me in this area? Never mind the complete disregard for common courtesy, their unprofessional behaviour, and their total lack of communication skills.
Thanks again all involved.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Two no shows in 24 hrs and then this morning a BTOR engineer shows up at 0840 completely unannounced.  Shocked Actually this doesn't shock me, it doesn't even surprise me. They don't bother their bums contacting you when they aren't going to show, so why should they when they decide they are going to turn up - whether it suits or not. Sigh.
However at least there might be progress,  Undecided did I really say that?

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Morning Karen,
Hope you did not trash the cupboards this weekend and this engineer gets the job done pronto!  You could try interrogating him about the operational issues which have caused the two no shows, though if he's a contractor he might not have a clue, in which case water boarding will be a complete waste of effort.  Cheesy

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Morning Dom and Kevin
Dom, makes typing tricky doesn't it.  Wink Thank you for the effort though.  Smiley
Kevin, I did try and get some info from him. However, he was an incredibly grumpy beggar so rather than get his back up more by asking why people hadn't turned up, I focused on the wonderful job he was doing and how difficult it was for engineers (yip, I used a shovel to lay it on).  Tongue  That eventually resulted in him saying that he was going to put in a new pair from the bottom of the road, (over a mile!  Shocked ) as there is no spare capacity. Still not sure I actually believe that I will get a new line  Undecided but........................... I live in hope rather than expectation.

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Hi Karen,
Over a mile for the over head drop wire - oh dear!  You've not said (or I cannot recall) what service you are having installed.  A mile of over head for ADSL is not brilliant, for FTTC it is very bad news.  If he's still around to influence, try your charm to ensure he uses thick gauge copper and not thin skimpy aluminium... Or we'll be hearing no end of woes from you on here!

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Hi Kevin, you don't know the half of it. Have had adsl BB since 2006, about 2 miles to the cabinet (now fttc) and another 1-11/2 Miles cabinet to Exchange. The joys of Rural Broadband. Usually have 1.2 to 1.5 Mbps down speeds and IP of 1.5/1.75 but over the last 3 years this regularly drops to 0.5 and when really bad 0.14. Deep sigh. Nearly always when there is dreadful rain. There is a fault somewhere on the cable, but they have yet to pin it down. Have had around 8 different engineers here, so getting soooooooooo hacked with with raising tickets, engineers coming, nothing being done, line dries out, fault goes for another while, repeat in closed loop.  Embarrassed
What is really funny is that my phone line is checking out for FTTC at estimated speeds of 70/80 Mbps  Cheesy

Re: Heading for 2nd no show in 24hrs

Someone is guilty of your "strap line".
Your situation illustrates well my suggestion that super fast broadband touted by rural councils is a complete farce until such time as FTTpole becomes a reality.  Any d-side over 2km is more or less a complete waste of time for FTTC services.
At least all your joint problems should be sorted.  Is the engineer actually putting up a new over head or has he put a request in for the same?  If you are anything like my rural area, they did nothing without a job request and a platform... which at best could take a day to two!
