Re: Not so award winning service

Id love to know where Plusnet get all these awards from. Award winning customer service. You`re better off sending it back to India and leaving it there. You cant fix anything, it aint your network its BT.  Do you have any idea of what percentage the customer services department actually get a problem solved first time. I rang up with a faulty line and 3 weeks later im leaving. I still have the same problem I orginally rang up with.

Re: Not so award winning service

Hooray. PlusNet have finally got it right.  Well almost.  My telephone is now active and I have my old phone number back.  They have said they will provide a discount for the late activation.  The broadband is good speeds of up 37 Mbps.
So I'm relieved it is all working, could really have done without all the hassle though.
The music on the support line is still annoying.  PlusNet's MD should be forced to listen to it for 20 minutes on a standard telephone handset and then be monitored for blood pressure and aggression levels.

Extremely good news!!
When PN finally get it right, they do a good job! It is just unfortunate that, on occasions, things can get pear-shaped!

I'm sorry you have had problems but pleased it's working now.
With music, we can't please everyone all the time, but I know this issue has been raised to our network team (they look after the phone system).

Re: Not so award winning service

Ah *****!  False alarm.  Despite PlusNet sending two copies of the same email confirming that my phone was now up and running with my old phone number, it's not.  The caller ID which I pay for is still not operational and when I try and ring my old number I get "number unobtainable".  When I use PlusNet's Telephone Panel it lists the new number (which I had to find out myself), if they are going to change your number you would think they would at least inform you of your new number.  Perhaps they think its funny.  I just think the whole episode is grossly unprofessional.  I've worked in the field of telephones and computers as an engineer since the late 60's and this series of cockups would not have been allowed to go on for this length of time.  Have I offended PlusNet in a previous life or do they just pick some sucker at random to wind up and annoy.  If the latter then at least they are leaving some other poor customer alone.
I tried to the Broadband Panel but that doesn't recognise my email address,  I tried setting up SJPhone but that wants a SIP password, no idea what that is, another piece of information PlusNet fails to communicate.  The land of happy amateurs is alive and well it seems.

I'm determined to get to the bottom of this debacle. Will keep you posted with anything I find. Cry

Re: Not so award winning service

Why would they give out a SIP password to someone who doesn't have a broadband phone service? Plusnet stopped that for new users a long, long time ago.

Re: Not so award winning service

If that is the case and it happened a long time ago, why have they not updated their documentation.  I ran the Telephone Control Panel and this was the result:
has been activated on your PlusNet broadband account.
To start using the service:
1 Download SJPhone, this enables you to make and receive calls on your computer.
2 Read the welcome email sent to your contact email address. This contains important information about your Broadband Phone account.
3 Login to your Broadband Phone Control Panel, here you can:

  Download software
Setup your contacts and voicemail message
View recent and itemised call summaries
    Buy top-ups for call credit
Keep track of your included minutes

Why ask customers to carry out a procedure that has been defunct a "long time ago"

This won't be the first time that the number in the telephone control panel is not what you expect. There have been plenty of previous cases where the number listed is one at a previous address and can't be transferred or even a totally unrelated one. You obviously need to pursue getting your old number back, but expect that you may have to get someone to update the control panel entry separately as well Roll_eyes

Re: Not so award winning service

I am sorry to see that problems have persisted. I note that our faults team has actually picked this up for you with the aim of getting your original number back - this failed. I'm hoping one of my colleagues with a bit more provisioning knowledge than me will be able to get this sorted sooner rather than later.

Re: Not so award winning service

Well after 40 questions opened (29 of which have been closed), I finally have the broadband and telephone service I ordered. Ordered on the 10th Jan, delivered on the 7th April. Impressed, definitely not.  PlusNet haven't actually notified me yet so I suppose there is still time for them to cock it up again,  Oh God I really hope not.
Its natural that you discuss these things with your friends, relatives etc so I suppose PlusNet must have lost at least dozen potential customers.  Its bad engineering practice and bad marketing.  I've switch ISPs about five times and apart from this one they have all gone very smoothly.  Have I been extraordinarily lucky in the past?  I wonder how many customers who switch do have major problems. Now it’s working though, I hope you do not experience problems in the future.
