PN not a BT subsidiary?

I just received a called call from a gentleman called, Paul, from BT offerring me BT Infinity Fibre BB.  I told him that I was with PP, a BT Subsidiary and therefore, not a wise thing to do.  His response was that BT have sold all the PN shares and PN is no longer a BT subsidiary.  Is this true?
In any case, I told him to get his bike tuto pronto.  Smiley

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

PN is part of the BT group which is split up into retail, wholesale and openreach
Openreach look after the exchanges and cables
Retail  looks after PN and BT isp
Wholesale sell the phone time to PN and BT, who are not allowed different costs

that Paul seemsto be pulling a Talk Talk stunt

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

Not really sure of the set-up, last week when I phoned BT to get a "Mac Code" to come over to here they started ffering me all sorts of discounts for me to stay with them, as soon as I told them I was comming over to PlusNet they got right sh***y with me, in the end I put the phone down on them.

No, we're still owned by BT I think they'd have told us first. He must have been having an off day!

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

I think that the guy I spoke to from BT was having a bad day, but what annoys me is that when you tell them you are going to leave their service they come up with all of these money saving schemes to keep you with them, if they can do it at that point why can't they give you a discount under normal conditions.

Plusnet takes strong action and are quite happy for users to contact Trading Standards when TalkTalk reps tell very similar lies.
I hope the same applies here!

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

I did wonder whether the caller was in fact from TalkTalk who I believe will offer FTTC using BT's network in some areas. Referring to this as BT Infinity doesn't stretch the imagination too much.

If they did they would have nothing to bargain with on the Customer Options phone line Wink

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

Thanks guys for the clarification.
I don't think he was from Talk Talk.  I do have his 0800 number he cold called me on.  If you want I can provide the number.
Many thanks again.

This should tell you who it is and give a regional number

Thanks I tried it.  Keyed-in the 0800 number & came up with:
"Your search didn't match any records.
Please check your search criteria and try again."
I suppose only BT can tell us who it was from!!!!

Re: PN not a BT subsidiary?

If you are going to call the 0800 numver, remember to prefix it with 141 to hide your number from them.
I say this because TT have been known to claim that you called them to sign up for their service and then Slam your Line to their service. You also need to be careful with any answers you give them that may be construed to be your agreement to being slammed.
