Re: Plusnet - New Network

That article was generated as a direct result of one of the post here, so if Darkfire hadn't of made the comment he did then we'd still be none the wiser.

I fail to see why PN has deiced to keep this a secret  Crazy

I assume there will be some kind of announcement when they begin migrating large numbers of users. But I doubt there will be any explanation of the technical details of the new network. Nothing changes and for me, the only noticeable difference was slightly better latency.

Been moved onto the new network myself, but now I can't authenticate with the system, tried multiple routers, modems, cables and had engineer.

Have you tried the BT test accounts?

Could someone who's had one of these messages post the output from
tracert ntp.plus.net

please.

My connection (from Bath so probably via Bristol) goes: CentralXX.ptn-bngXX -> ptw-crXX -> ptw-gwXX
So question is how do you translate those names into a route, unless you have some knowledge of the network topology? I can't find a map of the pusnet topology, so don't know which machines are in the central routing facility - unless the Central but aboe is a give away? E.g. can you test being on the new network by not seeing Central?
Thanks,
David.

Re: Plusnet - New Network

ptn is telehouse north in London so your tracert isn't telling you anything about your routing.

Just FYI, you're not on the new network.

Re: Plusnet - New Network

Harry, will anyone who is on the new network see pcl/ptn/ptw as their first hop after the router? It was earlier suggested that some people would not see a routing change (i.e. their connection would still be tunnelled to the London gateways).

Re: Plusnet - New Network

Expect a lower latency as the first external hop, probably on a ip with no rdns.

Re: Plusnet - New Network

What percentage of users will be moved across when this project is completed?

it won't be obvious to everybody when they've been moved i.e. you won't all see traceroutes like that ^

Will everyone be getting moved over Bob?

Quote from: Bob
Yeah, I believe that's the intention. There's a *lot* of circuits to move though so it will take some time.

Re: Plusnet - New Network

Not sure if this has already been answered, but does the second hop shown below to 206.core.plus.net mean I am on the new network?
Thanks.
Tracing route to ntp.plus.net [212.159.6.10]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    78 ms  101 ms  101 ms  BThomehub.home [192.168.1.254]
  2    26 ms    24 ms    24 ms  206.core.plus.net [195.166.130.206]
  3    25 ms    25 ms    26 ms  irb.13.ptw-cr02.plus.net [84.93.249.50]
  4    25 ms    25 ms    26 ms  po2.ptw-gw02.plus.net [195.166.129.39]

Re: Plusnet - New Network

If the announcement was symmetric FTTP with IPV6 to all customers, I might be impressed. BT has had long enough.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

That's ptw-bng02 I think, it's just the rDNS is wrong.

Re: Plusnet - New Network

The gateway checker shows me connected to pcl-ag02 so not sure why the 206.core.plus.net is there.
Bob - is there a way to tell when one is moved onto the new network?
