The day is nigh, when with some misgivings, I'm migrating to BT so my PlusNet service will be no more. I started in 2006 with a very basic broadband and shortly followed by moving my landline over as well. Since then, with just a few ups and downs, service has been fine. All copper, followed by FTTC, with a few bumps in speed along the way, has served me well. Now with Full Fibre on the way and the prospect of “blazing fast” broadband, here’s to a future with all sorts of goodies available. The future is “Fibre”.
Unfortunately, PlusNet decided not to offer a Phone/Voice service on Full Fibre. I understand why but perhaps the process of migration to could have been a little easier. I get the idea that the backroom boys have a tale to tell here, I guess we will never know.
So, goodbye and farewell to PlusNet and many thanks to both staffers and forum members who have helped out over the years. I wish you all the best for the future. BT here I come……

I fully expect that, after many years with Plusnet, I too will be gone soon. The loss of Mobile SIM was a pest. However, the slow but generally adequate fibre broadband has deteriorated to such an extent that it is frequently unusable. At best I get 1.6Mbps download and single figure upload. Currently I am having difficulty even accessing Gmail.
Enough is enough.

@winlinuser This sounds more like a network (OpenReach) issue. You would be best to create a post in the Broadband board with a little more detail.

I assume you are aware you could stay with PN and port your phone service / number to a VOIP provider. If the number isn't important then you can set up a VOIP account any time you like.

@bmc , Yes, very aware. The PlusNet and BT boys paid us a visit here in Leicester a couple of months ago. The outcome of that meeting, which went on for quite a while, was to migrate to BT; no termination fees and secure porting of my existing number. No-one at PN could be certain of a number port to a VOIP account.
So that’s what happened. As soon as FTTP was available, off went the order and dates were set. It wasn’t totally painless as the initial date was pushed back by OpenReach but the second date was held. Also, after a couple of hours with the new online the fibre cable failed and left us without broadband or telephone line over the weekend. OR appeared bright and early on Monday morning and soon after all was well. The phone line activated later that day. The increase in speed (bandwidth) is great and the phone just works as advertised. It plugs into the hub and behaves just as it always has, number included.
Hopefully that’s it all done and dusted but I might consider moving away from BT at some stage on grounds of price.
