Self install Fibre due at end of the month, you ready for it?

Simply are you planning on doing self installs with a all in one modem/router?  I am asking as the lure of fibre is getting stronger and I remembered that you were testing a Technicolor FTTC router/modem combo a few months back after seeing the news that self install is due

I'm sure they are planning it and it will happen. They've been testing self-installs with staff I believe.

Hi guys,
At the moment, there's no news of this.
No doubt we will let you all know as soon as this is possible.

Re: Self install Fibre due at end of the month, you ready for it?

Plusnet are probably trying to get rid of their TG582N stocks before moving over to self-install. They've also got to make sure whatever kit they choose for self-install works ok (hence the modem bank/staff testing).

Just as long as PN plan to have a config for the TG589 (or any other chosen CPE) to run it in bridge mode (aka 'modem only' mode) for those that wish to use alternative routers.

Re: Self install Fibre due at end of the month, you ready for it?

While I've not had any huge problems with the Technicolour router supplied by Plusnet (Apart from the 1st failing 9 months in, second still working about 10 months on now).  It would nice to have all in one modem/router would be nicer (also save a plug on my surge protector).
Not to fussed about it being dual band, because I've had a dual band router that didn't work properly, and there was only one item in my house that could utilise the 5Ghz band.

Re: Self install Fibre due at end of the month, you ready for it?

I prefer to have 2 boxes - the modem by the socket near the front door and the router upstairs in a bedroom connected by homeplugs router to modem. That way i get wireless over the whole house from loft extension to downstairs rooms.
Works great, I get 71Mb/s through ethernet homeplug connections (not so much with wireless of course).

Won't having a combined box cause DLM problems if people power down their boxes too often?
