Service status RSS feed

Funny how out of all the RSS feeds I've subscribed to, only Plusnet's was met with a load of duplicate posts after the clock change. Says a lot about Plusnet's ability to set things up correctly!

Re: Service status RSS feed

You mean the RSS feed on Usertools I guess? I'll ask someone to take a look.

Re: Service status RSS feed

I was blaming it on Firefox until I saw this thread and looked at the Usertools Status Archive pages  Roll_eyes

Re: Service status RSS feed

Oh yes!
Did you notice that all the duplicated posts have no category?

Some had a category, some didn't.

Re: Service status RSS feed

Look again! All the duplicate posts where the time is GMT (i.e. later) have no category. The original posts with the BST time have categories.

Re: Service status RSS feed

It's not the RSS feed that's broken, it's the status list on Usertools that's broken and because the RSS is generated from there, that's what has caused the issue. The status feed on status.plus.net is fine.

Re: Service status RSS feed

Thinking about it, did we get duplicated emails as well?
Two options:

  • Fix the status list on Usertools

  • Change the RSS feed to work from status.plus.net

What's the plan?

Re: Service status RSS feed

The source of the problem needs to be found first.
Quick check shows the RSS is working fine. The problem is that Usertools re-imported an absolute load of existing status updates all over again.
Right now, there are a few possibilities, however most of them look like there is a split second discrepancy between the clocks changing between a number of systems (core database and portal, portal and usertools). Unfortunately I cannot see which it is, as it will only happen within the moments following the clock change and everything is back to normal now.
I am not correcting the database on Usertools just yet and getting somebody else to investigate first.
Once the database of entries is corrected, the RSS will fix itself the next time a Service Status is published.

Re: Service status RSS feed

Forward a year and the same thing has happened again. 20 duplicated posts Angry
I suppose in another three or four decad... years they may fix it.
I also received a duplicated email from Thursday.
