Re: Totally Unlimited

Well, I found out Plusnet decided to change the website due to an investigation by the ASA.
So you probably shouldn't be calling it totally/truly/100% unlimited here either.

This might be helpful:

Is there something now (or will be) that legally doesn't allow it to be called totally? Wink

Re: Totally Unlimited

My understanding is that 'Totally Unlimited' in ASA-speak means 'Unlimited' in English.  'Unlimited' in ASA-speak doesn't really mean anything at all (like so many words in advertising); maybe 'marginally more than the average person who doesn't use their connection much uses'.  It is a shame that ASA didn't rule in terms of plain English, and used Unlimited to mean Unlimited
It would certainly be interesting to know more details of the ASA investigation and what rules Plusnet out from being Totally Unlimited.

Unlimited - yes, just not totally.  Wink
A quote from that article:
"ISPs can use "truly unlimited" - and now "totally unlimited" - if there are no "provider-imposed" limitations, such as traffic management."
The ASA's ruling:
https://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2012/7/British-Sky-Broadcasting-Ltd/SHP_ADJ_191871.aspx...
Now, what "provider-imposed" limitations do we have now? Otherwise, why all this fuss about changing the wording.  Roll_eyes

Maybe someone should explain exchange contention to the ASA. Wink

Re: Totally Unlimited

You have to feel a little sad for the folks at the ASA and OFCOM trying to get this into simple and accurate language. This is not easy to do, but from what we see of this, it does also suggest that maybe they need people at the ASA and OFCOM who understand the whole issue first.
