Upgrading to hub 3

Isnt it about time Plusnet modified or replaced their hub to provide wifi 6, 6e or 7 coverage. If they want higher speeds this is the way to go. Currently tottering along with wifi5 is doing no one any favours. A rep says he has not heard of any plans to move on. maybe change to an Asus router.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

@Fronk99 Do you know any ISPs that provide a WiFi6, never mind a 6e or 7 model with their cheap connections, and how many people have kit that could make use of the higher specs?

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

The latest EE Smart Hub + is WiFi6 and trials underway for a WiFi7 version - due to be out later in the year 0 maybe.

No doubt as per other BT routers there will be a PN version soonish.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

Fair enough, @Mustrum  - but how many people have kit that can use its capabilities? My laptop is three years old, but as far as I know it is not Wi-Fi6 capable - it may be, but for what I use it for, its Wi-Fi5 capabilities are more than enough.

@Fronk99

PN have never been in a hurry to upgrade their routers. From memory it was several years between the BT version being introduced and the Hub2 becoming available on PN. They are after all a budget brand.

However, they have always been happy for customers to use their own equipment if they need more bells and whistles.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

Sky`s hub 6 is wifi 6 compatible but their customer service isnt, my laptop is 6.5 years old but works quite happily with 6. Its a i7, 32gb ram, 1tb hdd 11% full. Win 10 Pro. I left after 76 days only a handful of which were over the contracted minimum. The fault was external.

How do you define ‘soonish’? There was a 5 year gap between BT offering the original Smarthub as a replacement for their HH5 and Plusnet replacing the HH5 based Hub 1 with the Hub 2.

There are reasons why BT/EE are more expensive than Plusnet.

You don't have to take the PN router, you can happily buy and use a WiFi 7 router if you wish.

I suspect most customers are happy as long as it works.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

@Fronk99

Clearly wired connections would never benefit from wifi-6 and any devices wireless network interface would need to support wifi-6

Interested which broadband package you have, unless it is Full Fibre and fast wifi-6 could be seen as a bit pointless as the full gains of wifi-6 would never be realised.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

Its full fibre allegedly minimum 500 mb/s and 900 mb/s max. I have yet to see 500. I`m keeping a record of the plusnet speed tester result and 2 independent testers. I will be seeing what the criteria is for a refund for failing to reach the minimum contracted standard after 14 days unless I start seeing regular readings above the minimum.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

How are testing - wired or wireless?

Sight of some actual test results and your connection stats may be useful?

Its wireless,  I sit 10 feet away from hub line of sight. No other electronics nearby.  Intel AX200 wifi 6.

Re: Upgrading to hub 3

If you are using the Hub2, can you post a screenshot of your Technical Log - Information page - obscuring any personal data?
