but that info used to be on the modify page, and my current one was a lot bigger than that, the software shrunk it

Giving me a complex...Apparantly size does matter. ( gonna have a word with my wife now).
seriously ,gonna try shrinking image then posting. The tension mounts...

rogadodge my image size is 96 pixels wide and 78 pixels high
its saved as  jpg and its filesize is 4.00 kb

I've just checked the properties of your avatar image: 80x65, PNG, 9.76kB. It must be being converted when uploaded.

Just checked the shrunk image. The one i sent to the forum is 42.7kb.  So the forum, must shrink it to fit then. All done now. now for the next qustion.....

I've just noticed in Chrome if you right click an image there is no 'Image Properties' option or the like Angry
