Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Hi and thanks to everyone trying to help just done another BT speedtest (5pm) today I did as Matt advised disconnect and reconnect as the improvement was not apparent at first, but now seeing jelv's posting I maybe should not have done that, if so sorry and I will definately leave everything plugged in and powered-up for as long as it takes,
many thanks dabba.

Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Hi dabba,
I'm glad things have improved, it does look though as the disconnect/connect caused a sync drop and was probably a bit late in the day so your have a lower sync (connection rate) at 4224.  My advice would be to do a powerdown resync mid/late morning. Hopefully you'll do better with the sync speed.

Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Hello just to keep in touch regarding recent problems, as advised I'm leaving the system running speed has dropped a bit but a lot lot better than I've been receiving results from a few moments ago below,

Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Hi dabba.
It would seem from earlier posts that your modem/router connect/disconnect button causes a resync with the exchange so I would advise against using it to gateway hop.
I don't know if you have done this since your previous BT speedtest report in reply #32, or done a reboot (or power down) at any time (except mid-late morning), but if not, I'm afraid you've had at least one other line drop as your sync speed (DSL connection rate) is down to 4064. This is quite a lot lower than the report on the 10th.
Any extra information you can give and your latest modem/router ADSL line stats may help to show what is going on.
A couple of other things I see not mentioned, do you live in an area prone to any power dips or cuts?
Have you checked your phone line - can you hear/have you heard any crackling or other intermittent noise on the line? Dial a 1 to get rid of the dial tone. If you need more time before the NUT (number unobtainable tone) dial the quiet line test 17070 option 2. (Don't use any ringback or other test). Who is your Telephone Line Rental provider?

Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Speed still holding up well! what does 'gateway hop' mean? is it  best policy to leave the Router  on (it has been since trying to establish speed ptoblems)? previously I did sometimes power-down last thing at night! did have a powercut a couple of nights ago but not normally a problem in this area. speed results 2pm today below,
thanks for the help and advice,

Re: slow speed, slow to none response.

Your PPP connection can be to any one of a number of gateways some of which may be busier than others. You can check which gateway you are currently on using the link in my sig.
People break and remake their PPP connection to try to get on a less busy gateway. You can see graphs of the gateways using the other link in my sig.
How you break and remake your PPP connection is determined by the type of router you have.
